EASTERN STAR LADIES ENJOY 'SANTA CLAUS' URGING CnRISTMMAS MAILING Hold Meeting at Ilallstrora Home and Enjoy Visit Prom Kris Kringle. From Wednesday's Pally Yesterday afternoon the ladies of the Eastern Star Kensington enjoyed one of the most delightful meetings of the year at the hospitable home ,of Mrs. John II. Hallstrom and who was assisted in the pleasant event by Mrs. James G. Mauzy, Mrs. Henry Mauzy. Mrs. Allen J. Beeson. Mrs. Fred 1 Husch and Mrs. C. A. Rawls. After a short business session the (meeting 'u turned into a., "kid's" partv and every member of the jolly I crowd entered into the fun and frolic iof the occasion and for several hours there was plenty of entertainment for all of the members present. The program committee was given charge of the afternoon and proved that they were real entertainers. There wad a contest staged in which each 'member was requested to write a U tter to Santa Claus and each Kilt requested was to begin with the let ter "C" and in this Mrs. Luke L. Wiles proved the most successful. The "kids" were then invited to give a short program. Little Hen rietta Gorder pave a piano solo and proved a. very promising child as she Lad taken only two lessons. Postmaster James W. Holmes is adding his pan to the campaign j that is being made by the posfolliee department in the interest of tlu-j shop early and mail early campaign! that the postoflico department is making over the nation in' hopes of securing a united movement that will enable the department to get the Christmas mail in early and see that it is all delivered promptly on time. The postmaster has sent out letters to all of the school teachers to have the campaign carried into the schools and as well is notifying the ministers of the city to aid in the campaign by urging their congregations to get in their Christmas mail early and avoid the rush of the last few days that may delay the delivery of the gifts until the Christmas day is past. For some time there have been persistent reports that one or more lions which had escaped from a cir cus were at large in southeastern Nebraska. Several towns have re ported them as being seen in their vicinities, particularly about Tal mage and Cook. Now the animal or animals, if there really are such, are reported in this part of the country. George Guilliatt who lives between here and Auburn reports that on TuesdayVone of the animals came In to the Cold where he vras picking corn. The dog ran from the beast, and got under the wagon and stayed ; there while Guilliatt hastily drove (to the house. Class of the Methodist church demonstrat ed to the ladies class that they can also invade t he domain of woman kind and get away with it. The younir men's class were the losers in the rec nt contest berwoon their ikes' and that of the Philathea class of the ladies as to which could maintain the largest church attend ance for a four weeks period, and they very gracefully showed the la dies that tluy were good losers and to do this planned, served and pre pared a first class banquet at the Methodist church parlors last even ing. The family have been among the best residents of the city and here the aged father has lived to see the children grow to manhood and wom anhood and the grandchildren come and gather at his knee ami tinally the great grand-child it n who hear his name. Six years ago the home suffered the bereavement of the tak ing away of the wife and mother, and since that time Mr. Vostrejs has largely made his heme with the children. There are left to mourn his loss four children, Frank and Joseph, of this city; John, of Reliance, South Dakota, and Mrs. Tom C. Janda. of Omaha. Another daughter. Mrs. Jo sephine Krisky passed away a few months ago at her home in this city. The body of Mr. Vostrejs was brought to this city on the 2:::." Shrader. one of the pioneer residents of Cass county, who makes his home her.' with his son. Homer Shrader, suf fered a very severe attack of heart trouble and for some time was in very serious condition. Sandin and who re ceived splendid support from their associates of the class membership. MACCABEE LADIES MEET Frm Wpilniv-ft-iv's Ti.-ii- The ladies of the W. n. A. of the Maccabees held a very pleasant session last evening at the M. Y. A. hall and which was very largely attended by the membership. The ladies held their beautiful and im pressive iniiatory ceremonies in which Misses Pernice and Peat rice Herring and Mrs. Harry Peal were inducted into the mysteries of the order. The lodge also elected the officers for the ensuing year and. the fol lowing were selected: Commander Mrs. Anna Ptak. lieutenant Commander Mrs. Fern McMakcn. Past Commander Mrs. Lura Adams.
