the railroads, congress is evincing no
enthusiasm over the proposal to give
the president blanket authority to
seize the railroads and mines in the
public interest. One Washington cor
respondent says that the majority in
congress has declared a "never again
pledge."

Every man and woman have their
political right, but when self inter
est is attached by such enormous
taxes as Nebraska farmers and all
others are suffering from, politics
should cut no figure. The taxpayers
demand relief, and the ; democrats
have promised to give it to them and
they know that promises made by
the democrats will hold good if they
are successful at the November elec
tion. :o:
Mildred Harris Chaplin was quot
ed recently as being of the opinion
that Lila Lee would be the next Mrs.
Charlie Chaplin. But yesterday a
coast dispatch said Miss Lee and
James Kirk wood had left for the
east to be married. We should think
most women could manage . to keep
track of her successors a little better
than Mildred does smacks a bit of
carelessness.
