Senator Jim Reed down in Missouri
yesterday. We have known him for
at least thirty-five years, and no bet
ter democrat ever trod the byways
of this grand old state than Senator
Reed. The night was never too dark
and weather too stormy for him to
get out and work for democratic suc

People owning vacant lots usually
are holding them 83 a speculation.
They expect to make money from
them. Aren't they, then, under the
greater obligation not to permit the
lots to be a nuisance to the neigh
borhood? Is it too much to expect the
owners to cut the weeds, to keep
trash off the lots and to refrain from
harming adjacent property with
glaring billboards.

The Japanese make it plain that
altogether they stand ready to ful
fill the terms of "lhe Washington
agreement respecting reduction of
armament, they will not proceed
with the scrapping of any ship un
til France ratifies the treaty. They
expect France to ratify, but do not
feel that they can afford to act pre-t
maturely. This is reasonable. Mean
time, there are others who would be
glad to know what France's purpose
is in regard to ratification- A rood
deal of valuable time has been lost.

Haldeman to secure a note of even
date given by the said Amelia B.
