Mr. Keil was awarded the bounty o $3 for the scalp. Jordan spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Cashner, at University Place. Word from Mr. and Mrs. Dale S. Boyles, who are now in Denver, Colorado, states that Mr. Boyles ij improving in "health rapidly. Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Rouse returned home Saturday from St. Joseph, Mo., bringing their daughter, Mrs. Uhley and children home with them. The Ladies Aid society held a rum mage sale in the Boyles building on Saturdaj- afternoon clearing $33.00. Bert Kitzel auctioneered for them. Mr. and Mrs. H. Mrs. Ruth Apploman drove to 'ut new home at Liberty last Fri lay afternoon. She was accompan ied by her mother, Mrs. H. A. Bailey md son, Kenneth. They returned on Sunday evening. Mrs. Joe Armstrong received a telegram Tuesday morning, to come to Greenwood at once as her mother, Mrs. Ange Hurlbnt, was very ill. Mrs. Arms-ong left immediately for her mother's home. Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Appleman en tertained at dinner Sunday,. March 14, the latter's two brothers. Dr. II. D. -Linch of Chappell and W. R. Linch nd wife and her mother, Mrs. W. A. Linch and Miss Edith Feddock, of University Place and Miss Lewis, Mr. Adams, Miss Johnson and Mr. De Loss Linch, of Lincoln. A number of men from this vi cinity among whom were S. C, Boyles, Geo. P. Foreman. J. II. Fore man, L. B. Appleman, Chas. Apple man, Harry -Appleman, Chas. Ayers. E. M. Stone and Thos. Stout, went to Plattsmouth Tuesday to appear before the county commissioners in regard to changing the county road. The funeral of little Pauline Lee, aged 6 years, daughter of Mr., and Mrs. Frank Lee, was held from the M. E. church Tuesday afternoon. March 23. 1920. Burial, was made fn the Alvo cemetery. The little one passed away Saturday evening after much suffering. The bereaved fam ily has the sympathy of many friends in their hour of grief. Mrs. M. C. Keefer entertained the Women's Reading club last Thurs day. The program touched on the Nebraska Economy campaign and consisted of a paper on "Wise Plan ning of Clothes," by Mrs. Bert Kit zel and a paper on the "Nebraska Economy Campaign" by Mrs. Henry Bornemeier. Roll call was answered with an individual method of keep ing down the high cost of living. Mrs. John Foreman sang - an Irish lullaby. The Mothers Home Missionary so ciety entertained members of the Mothers' Jewels and Home Guard so cieties and their mothers at the M. E. church Saturday, March 18th. The Jewels and Guards gave a good : program. Several new members were taken into the V. H. M. auxiliary. The four groups, 'the Mothers and Babies. the Mothers Jewels, the Home Guards and .the Missionary bociety were photographed. Murray of Omaha, came down this afternoon to enjoy a visit here with the old friends for a few hours. P. A. Countryman of near Ne havrka, was among those visiting in the city Saturday afternoon look ing after some matters at the court house. Attorney Joseph A. C'hapwell and R. H. Becker returned Satur day from Alvo, where he has been .viisting and was taken down with the flu and is at present confined tc hi j room at the Ferkins house. Charles E. Heebner and son of Nehawka, were in the -city Saturday and the many friends of the genial former county commissioner, were more than pleased to enjoy a few hours visit with him. 1'Vom Tuesday's Daily. Clem Smith, wife and son of Den ton, Montana, have been visiting with relatives at Hamburg, Iowa, and enroute to the west stopped here for a visit at the home of Mr. md Mrs. L. L. L. Propst. BASE BALL TEAM i ELECTS MANAGER Tohn F. Wolff is Selected by Players as Manager and Agrees to Take the Position 'rora Wednesday's DaUy. Last evening the base ball players of the city gathered together and de cided upon the selection of John F. Wolff as the manager for the team and made the plans for a mass meet ing of the players and fans to be lield at the labor temple on Wed' nesday evening, March 31st at 8 i'clock. Mr. Wolff has agreed to take the position of manager provided that it is agreeable to the players and fans and will be the manager in fact is well as name. To the members )fthe team approaching him Mr. Wolff made the announcement that during his management membership Dn the team would be determined y merit only and that the players x-ho made good would be allowed to play and those that did not would have to retire in favor of the men taking a greater interest in. the game and possessing better playing ability. There will be no favorites held by the manager who is not intimately associated with any of the players and who will strive for just one :hing a winning base ball team. Mr. Wolff is anxious for the hearty co-operation of the citizens of the community in getting the team start ed out right and following the meet ing on the 31st, the work of the sea son will be started out right and as soon as the line up is decided upon and the players given a little prac tice they will be ready for the formal opening of the season. The new manager is an old vet eran at the base ball game himself as he was an active player as well as manager-of the Cedar Creek team for a number of years and was very suc cessful in his work at that place. The fans and the public will be pleased that Mr. Wolff has decided to take the managership and he will find- them ready to co-operate in making -this season one of success. Visited Daughter in Hospital Dr. B. F. Brendel and wife, ac companied by Mrs. J. F. Brendel. and little son Richard, and George Parks, were aute -visitors in Omaha last Monday, when all went to visit Miss Willa Parks, who is in the hos pital at that place. Miss Willa, who has been there for some time, is having a rather severe time in her recovery and it was feared for a time that a second operation would be required, but it is now hoped that it can be avoided.
