Isey Rosenthrall arrived in this city this morning, coming to arrange for himself and S. J. Reames to go to Elmwood, where they have some four or five electric lights to install. S. J. Reames, of Cedar Creek, was in the city last evening looking af ter some business matters regarding the installation of some electric light plants in the nearby country, lie departed last evening for home. Oscar Huffman of Weeping Water, who has been visiting in this city for the past few days departed this mor ning for Omaha, where he goes to visit his niece, Mrs. Edgar Stein hauer who is at the Emanuel hos pital. From Friday's Daily. F. A. Madison of South Pend, was a visitor in this city today and was looking after some business at the court house. E. Meyer and J. W. Benedict of Louisville, came in this morning to take the examination before the local exemption board. Roy Hazell of Weeping Water was in the city last evening coming to take the physical examination before the local exemption board. Wm. Mecham and Earnest Graham both of Louisville were in the city this morning, coming to take their examination before the local board Emil Stugenezzer of South Bend was looking after some business at the court house this morning, and also had some matters to look after in the city. Orlando Tefft of Avoca was in the city this morning looking after some business regarding the council of de fense, and transacting some business at the court house. Will Diers of Louisville was a visitor in this city today coming down to look after some business at the court house and also to transact some business in the citj-. L. V. Staten came over yesterday afternoon from Weeping Water and took the examination before the lo cal exemption board after which he drove home in the blizzard in the evening. X. II. Meeker of Greenwood in the west end of the county was in this city today looking after some busi ness in the city and also having some business to transact at the court house. Henry Ball of Louisville was down yesterday taking the examina tion before the local exemption board and was accompanied by his sister Laura Ball. They left last evening for their home. C. E. Irewont, of Omaha, was in the city this morning, coming down to take the examination before the local board, he having been work ing at Avoca for the Missouri Pa cific last summer at the time of registration. Sam G. Stone is loading some cars with baled alfalfa hay on the Bur lington tracks for shipment, for which he is getting $24.00 per ton on the tracks here. This is good al falfa, and fine feed, but it would have caused heart failure some time ago at that price. Paul Jung of Hortonville, Kansas, arrived in the city this morning via the early Mo. Pac. train and passed the examination before the local board, and expected to catch the train for Omaha, only to be about four minutes late. He had to await another train, as he was going to Papilliou, where he will visit with a brother-in-law Theodore Bendorf for a while before returning to his home. He was living near Mvnard last spring when he registered. Mr. W. W. Sanders, uncle of A. M. Sanders, of this city, arrived in town this afternoon for a short vis it before he returns to his home at Garretson, Minn. He had been to Nemaha, where he accompanied the remains of a daughter, Mrs. A. J. Kownn, wh a few days ago died at her home in "Malecca. John Beckman arrived in the city this morning from Louisville and is looking after some business matters here today. Vinton Stewart, Earle Clymer and J. V. Stradley, all of Greenwood, were looking after some business in the city today. Henry Heebner, of Murray, came in this morning from his work at Cedar Creek, departing this after noon for home. John Shuerer, of Cedar Creek, ar rived in the city this morning, at which place he is looking after some business for the day. Miss Myrtle Parriott arrived in the city this morning for a visit with relatives and friends, coming from her school at Cedar Creek. Wm. Shipley and wife of LaPlatte came in this afternoon from their home and are visiting with Mr. Ship ley's father, D. M. Graves for the day. Henry Saunders, of Cedar Creek, was a visitor in this city today, com ing to look after some business at the county 'Seat, and also attend to some business matters about town. Elan and Dale Spangler, of near Louisville, were in the city today, looking after some business matters and after attending to the same, re turned home on the afternoon train. Miss Leta Lair, who is teaching in the Louisville schools, came in this morning for a short visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Lair, and returned to tier work this after noon. Benney Speck from near Murray was a passenger to Omaha this morn ing, where he is looking after some matters regarding his eyes, which have been giving him some trouble for some time. Mrs. Sam O. Ilackenberg, of Ced ar Creek came in this morning to visit with her three daughters who are living here, two of them going to school and the third. Miss Cressie being employed in the Burlington shops. Henry Horn. v. ho was in the city last evening to see his brother, J. J. PERCE Y WAR THEN IS REPORTED VERY SICK From Friday's raily. Last evening B. B. Warthen of this citv received a message from Camp Cody, New Mexico, from C. F Cool, first lieutenant of Company ( 12Sth Machine Gun Battalion, stat ing that Mr. Warthen's son Percy Warthen was dangerously ill at the camp and that an operation would be required for Mastoid. Percy Warthen has been sick for some time and been confined to the hospital at the camp, and has lost the hearing in one ear on account of an abscess which has gathered in the region of his ear. The condition of the young man is serious or the message would not have come stating that he was dang erously ill from the first lieutenant of the company in which he is locat ed. We are hoping that the operation will result in relief, and that he will soon be on the way to entire recov ery. PAUL ROBERTS SICK HERE. Paul Roberts of Cedar Creek was laKen sick yesterday with violent pains in his stomach, which has kept him from his business and compelled him coming to this city to consult with his physician. HEATLESS DAYS ARE ABANDONED Garfield Suspends the Order Closing Dcwn Industries of the East on Mondays in Future. Washington, Feb. 13. Fuel Ad ministrator Garfield today suspend ed the Monday closing order, but left the way open to put it again in operation if it appears that that would be necessary. State Fuel Administrators were given permission to keep the order in force in their states, if it appears that it should be done to relieve fue shortage, and also were authorized to put into force 'any other restric tive measures that special circum stances make necessary. The part of the Monday closing order establishing a priority list in coal distribution will be continued generally as will the embargo and placed on railroads by Director Gen eral McAdoo. The operation of the priority arrangement and the embar troes. . Fuel Administrator Garfield said today, promise to solve the fuel Droblem unless there is a return of bad weather. Dr. Garfield said that the New England states were the only ones that had requested that the order be continued in force and that J. Storrow. fuel administrator for New England probably would issue special order continuing its opera tions in those states. He describee the New England fuel situation as critical. Knorr. at her rooms at the ("oronado Apts., in a most charm ing manner. In keeping with the season the Knorr apartments bad been very prettily decorated with the Valentines. The remedy given was to kill the Kaiser The guests were then entertained with Victrola and piano selections one Victrola record a Mexican se lection, was especially in much de mand and was one of the popular ones and very much enjoyed by the guests. Just about this time the hostess served a dainty luncheon, she being assisted in serving by Mrs Minnie Prichard. Then they went home, not because they wanted too but the hour was quite late. All declared Mrs. Knorr to be a most ex ccllent entertainer. UNCLE WILLIAM BURKE IS NOW VERY SICK From Friday's Iaily. Uncle William Ilurfce is very low at the home of his daughter, Mrs Fred Soancrler some three miles south of this city. Mr. Rurke has an abscess on his, small intestines. which is keeping him confined to his bed, and caused excruciating suffer ing a great deal of the time. An ice pack is kept on his side most of the time in order to alleviate the pain, as much as possible. An oper ation . is considered the essential thing for the malady, but his ad vanced age and weakness at this time precludes the act. FARM WORK WANTED. Uy man with family, year round work.
