Hill AGI HI HIS IKS Mr. Orva Gllson and Miss Rosa Rotter United in Marriage This Afternoon. From Monday's Dally. This afternoon at three o'clock the marriage of two of. Plattsmouth's most estimable young people was solemnized by Judge M. Archer at the home of the bride's parents, when Miss Rosa Rotter was united lu mar riage to Mr. One Gil.son. Promptly at three o'clock the strains of the wedding march from Mendelsohn Is sued throughout the homo and the 'bridal procession entered the rooms adorned and decorated In sumptuous fashion, the bride being escorted by I her father and the groom being au rora panted by his groomsman, Mr. James Worsham. The wedding music for the occasion was furnished by Mr. C. Ii. I'.tickley, a brother-in-law of the bride, and the beautiful strains of the Mendelsohn made the occasion a striking one and brought tears to the eyes of those present. The bride was al tired In a (harming blue cos tume and the groom was clothed In conventional business dress, while the rooms were decorated In becoming colors, the parlor being In purple and the dining room in pink and white. Immediately hfter the ceremony the entire company adjourned to the din ing room where a palatial feast had been prepared for the guests anil where they ah united In pledging the health of the happy couple. The out-of-town guests In attendance at the function were Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Buckley of Moline, III.; Mr. nnd Mrs. C. F. Iiak of South Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. James Novak of llavelock, grandparents of the bride, and Mr. James Worsham of Omaha. The young people will for a time at least make their homo In this city, where they have a host of friends who unite with the Journal In wishing them a long and happy life. . A Peculiar Operation. Word Is received at the Journal to day that the proposed operation for the relief of Miss Lillian Thompson has been performed and to all pres ent appearanes has every Indication of being a complete success. Miss Thompson, who Is very well known in this vicinity Is a daughter of Joe Thompson and for some time past has been suffering from a malady that was at first supposed to be tuber culosis of the bones, but has since been more definitely diagnosed as purely a nervous complaint, and It Is a very jwullar one. In order to relieve a condition In which the pa tlent has been deprived of tho use of her limbs and muscles the attend Ing physicians decided today upon a rather remarkable operation as a remedy, namely, the removal by amputation of the third toes of both yfeet. This Is probably tho first and only Instance of a sllllar operation having been performed In this vliln lty, but everything appears to Indicate that It will be successful and the friends of tho young lady Join the Journal In the hopo that the recovery may be a speedy one. The Rcliloim Field (ilasN. The Journal was in the receipt this morning of a very pleasant call from the Rev. C. A. llurdlck of Ne hawka, editor nnd manager of "The Religious Field Glass," a new relic lous periodical to be published by the. press of the Journal Prlntery and which Is to be circulated throughout the country for the pro motion of Christianity. Number one and volumo one of this novel little publication will appear from this of flee In about a week or ten days and tho Initial copy will contain a cover picture In colors of Alice Louise, the littlo four year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. ('.. C. Wcscolt or this city. The pnper Is a monthly of from twelve to sixteen pages and while the editor is the pastor of the United Brethren church, the paper will be conducted without regard to religious prejudice, and Mr. llurdlck Is a genial getleninn who will no doubt conduct a paper that will be Interesting and lnstrlctive. Mrs. Peter Perry and MI-s Mlnuta Perry, weie passengers for the norU on the early train this morning, Mrs. Perry going to Omaha and Miss Perry to Lincoln. County Attorney W. ('. Ramsey passed through PlaUsmouth yester day on his way to Sidney, la., on legal business, expecting to return to this city today in order to attend the term of court here. Elbert Wiles, residing sou ill of PlaUsmouth, was in the city Satur day and railed at this office and ordered a copy of the Semi-Weekly Journal sent to his brother, Ralph Wiles, who Is now residing near Weeping Water. Frank II. Smith, of the Journal force, spent Sunday with the family of Claud Everett near Union. Mr. Smith reorts everything looking fine in that part of the county and the prospects appear excellent for a phenomenal crop this year In that section. From Tiwfcl.'iy'g Dally. Fred Egenberger who has Just re turned from a trip to Missouri, this morning made a business trip to the metropolis. Miss Georgia Matous was a pas senger for Lincoln this morning on the early train, where alio will visit with friends. Andrew Matous was a passenger for Omaha this morning on the early train, going to that city to attend the funeral of John Roslcky. Fred Wagner, one of the prosper ous farmers from the vicinity of Louisville, was a visitor in this city yesterday on business. County Commissioner Chas. U. Jor dan, came In last evening from his home at Alvo, to attend the meeting of the board In session today. O. N. Hansen, one of Cass coun ty's prosperous and Influential farm ers from near Nehawka, Is looking after business in the city today. Commissioner Switzer came over from hl3 home near Weeping Water last evening to meet with that body of financiers for Cass county today Luke Wiles was a passenger for the north today, going to Omaha to visit with his brother Frank in that city, and look after some business matters. Col. W. S. Askwith of the local Masonic home went up to Omaha today to attend the regular monthly meeting of the board of directors of the home. Mrs. Geo. Sltzman, from near Ce dar Creek Is In tho city today on business in county court, connected with the settlement of the estate of her husband, the late Geo. Sltzman. Commissioner Switzer is Buffering from an injury to his hand received this morning before leaving home Mr. Switzer had the misfortune to run the tines of a pitchfork through his right hand, Incapacitating that member for active service. Henry Fpeck of the News force de parts tomorrow morning for thi city of Ileatrce where he goes to take a better position with one of tho papers there. Mr. Speck is a competent nnd experienced printer and will no doubt make good In his new position. This afternoon several of the young men of tho local Christian Church Brotherhood will go to Omaha to attend the meeting of the brother hood In that city, where the Rev Luther Moore of this city will address the meeting. Otto Stege Is convalescent from an attack of pneumonia. Miss Edith Mullin has been the nurse In charge. Mr. and Mrs S. M. Cox of Mur dock, who have just returned from a years visit in Oregon, were calling on Elmwood friends Monday. The little son of Mrs. Quillhorst, who was operated upon some time ago at the local hospital, underwent a second operation at the same place Wednesday. He Is doing nicely now and bright hopes are entertained for his early recovery. Harvey Miller and family left Tues day for their future homo near Wes sington Springs, S. D., where Mr. Miller purchased a line half section from our local real estate men, Tyson & Williams. Their car of goods pre ceded them Monday accompanied by Sid aJmes. Dr. Frank Paddleford and family came Friday morning for a short visit with his mother Mrs. V E. Paddle ford, returning Saturday to their home at Decatur, Nob. Mr. Paddle ford expects to move to South Dako ta soon w here he will ' resume the prac tice of medicine. Mr. Joe Mason of Ashland and Min- nK Smith of Greenwood, were mar ried at Lincoln Wednesday noon. They will make their home at Green wood. Miss Smith is a daughter of Mrs. Henry Ilettric.li of this city and has many friends here who join the Leader-Echo in wishing her a lif of continued prosperity and l.appi ners. ixn'isvii.i.i:. Keckler moved his family here last week from Manley and will occupy the C. G. Mayfield property In the north part of town. R. S. Scofield, the new hardware man, has arrived with his family from Harland, Iowa, and will occupy the Metzger residence as soon as their household goods arrive. C. M. Seybert, the Dundy county land man, sold a half section of land last week to Edward Brunko. Ed and his brother Ernest also purchas ed the pool hall and have taken pos session. -Parmele & Barker's big double front automobile garage which was started last fall Is now being com pleted. It Is being erected of the famous Louisville sand stone sawed in blocks and will be one of the neat est buildings of the kind In the state when completed. Jake Reinhart Is doing the mason work which Insures a good job. Charles Urwin, John and Charles Hennlngs and G. II. Wood will shlj their household goods to Wibaux, Montana, Monday, where they have purchased land. Mr. Wood will occupy a house on the Riehey Bros, ranch, twenty-five miles from town. Charles Hennlngs will farm about twenty-two miles from town while John Hen nlngs and Charley Urwin will be with in four or five miles from Wibaux. The Courier wishes all the boys suc cess In their new homes. Returns From Kansas. Judge Travis returned Saturday from a two weeks trip clown In Kan sas, spending most of his time on his possessions In Trego county. The judge seems to have fared well by his trip and is looking much benefit ted by his outing. While away he visited several other sections in Kan sas, and says the prospects for crops are very flattering in the sections he visited. Judge Travis Is more favor ably impressed than ever with that country, nnd believes Its future is very great. Trego county is corning to the front as one of the best agri cultural sections In the west. The judge highly commends the Journal for Its efforts In Interesting the peo ple In the necessity of building a new jail, and says that one should have been built years ago. Blade n Rig Sale. Hon. Vint W. Straub, who Is ow ner of probably the finest herd of Galloway cattle In the United States, was In the city today and informed us that he had sold twenty-two of his bulls and cows to the owner of a large ranch In Montana, and that he received a large price for them. The deceased passed away about noon today at his home on the farm about one mile south of this city, death resulting from a compli cation of diseases In which old age played a prominent part- Tho lats Mr. Huffman was born August 2, 1833, he was well and favorably known In this vicinity, being one of that rapidly decreasing band f heroes, the veterans of the civil war.
