The new law 4?xtendiri"; the termor registers of deeds one year was declared invalid and unconstitutional by the supreme court yesterday evening, Judge IJarnes dissenting, says the Lin coln Journal. As a result the old law is in force and the names of can didates for registers of deeds will have to be placed on the ballot by county clerks. The court gave only an oral opinion and will lile a written opinion later. One cause for haste in the matter was the general desire of county clerks to ascertain the opinion of the court in time to prepare the ballots. The decision was given in the Cage county and the ISuffalo county man damus suits to compel the county clerk to place the names of candidates on the ballot. The suits involving the right to extend the terms of county supervisors were not decided, lne.se suits were argued and submitted to the court late in the evening and as they involved ijuestions somewhat dif ferent from those in the register of deeds cases they will not be decided until today. j In dissenting from the opinion of thecouit that the register of deeds act is unconstitutional, Judge ISarncs r. t.i! : holds that the legislature lias power Jo 1 ' S - . ..! 1 , . -. r . : ... . .. 1 :. .1 . ; t i (;i e.xienu me teiiii uiaiiuii.ee luiiin il can create and abolish at pleasure.
