EVROPE IS ALARMED OVER i KAISER WILHELM'S CONDITION A Vienna throat specialist of world will, renown ahl iepc tin;; tin- i.l m-sH of Kaiser Vllln Im : 'I'rof. Schmidt's prolon;"d itay with the kaiser is evidence of the se rious condition of the patb nt ittid of the gravity of the operation. The op eration, as it has been described ill the newspaper.... is the most insignifi cant imaginable. One day of rest and abstention from speaking should have been SUliUient for complete recovery. From the duration of the kaiser's convalescence and from I'rof. Schmidt's three weeks' stay, and also from other incidents intelligible to the professional mind, it is perfectly plain that a cleavage of the larjnx has been performed, and no surgeon decides upon such an operation unless there is a growth of a pernicious character. "An order has gone forth from the m l that no Viennese surgeon is to express an opinion on the c.,.;c, but at professional gatherings no reliance it- placed in the assurances contained in the published bulletins. "History will repent itseir. Some professional man of renown will have to be found who will inspire Ihe em peror with full confidence in himself, lie will have lo face Ihe world with the assertion to the last Unit the em peror's throat disease is harmless, just as Sir Morel I Mackenzie did. whe sacrificed bis lime, health and reputa tion in order to keep the Kmperor Frederick in ignorance of his true coudit ion." A small Frankfort paper, the Kleine Presse. which has many friends in the medical circles of Frankfort, says: "All those who ought to know are anything but confident in the emper or's speedy recovery. They regard the illness in a different light from that shed upon it by the press in gen eral. The emperor is much depressed and his general health has given way a sood deal." It is believed in r.eilin that Prof. Schmidt has only returned to Frank fort for a time and will soon be in Her liu again. Doubts are expressed whether a second operation will not lie necessary. Berlin Press Not Satisfied. A section of the llerlin press con tinues to be inclined to doubt the olli cial assurances that ihe emperor is making satisfactory progress towards recovery. The rreusische Correspon dence, declares ho is not doing as well as could be wished, and that the wound in his throat is healing slowly. The paper adds that his majesty looks worn and ag-d. The Tagliche Itun dichau demands that the physicians let Ihe country k-now the real condi tion of the emperor. To Tour the World in Auto. Klie.er K.
