He is now general agent for the Alliance and I Delaware Insurance com pany, with headquarters at Kansas City. Ch as. II. Axley and Miss Annie Walker, of Springfield, Neb., were married by Judge Douglass last Friday in this city. After the ceremony the young couple seemed very happy that the trying ordeal was over. Our German friend, Matt Spader, called Saturday and renewed for another year. Mr. Spader is one of the popular Germans of Cass county, and while a democrat, had the honor of serving in the capacity of assessor of one of the strong republican precincts of the county. Uichey, the iopular lumber man at Louisville, was down last Thursday taking in the sights -at the county seat. Our old friend J. A. Walker, of Murray, was In the city Tuesday, and of course dropped in a few moments to sec how the Journal was getting along. Mr. C. S. Wortman, sr., of South Bend, and father of our eflicentcounty suerintendent of schools, sends in a dollar and orders the Journal sent to him for one year. Herman Lessel, night operator at the M. 1. depot, has returned from his trip to Herman, Missouri, where he was called on account of the death of his grandmother, who died quite suddenly at the advanced age of ninety years. C. E. Doty, one of the Journal's Ne hawka patron's, was in the city yester day, and while here renewed for the Old Reliable another year. Mr. Doty is one of the reliable young democrats of Cass county. It does not speak well for a town to see the weeds grow up in the streets and fall over on the sidewalks. Cut them down; it will help the appearance of the town and prove a great benefit to the health of the citizens. The BEER of Good Cheer. The carpenters have challenged the painters of this city for a mortal com bat with ball and bat on the diamond. The challenge has not yet been ac cepted. Fred Ackerman, recently in the employ of Harry Kuhney, the barber, departed Tuesday morning for Dead wood, S. D., where he has secured a position. Miss Mary Martin left for Stanton, Neb., yesterday for a brief visit. She was accompanied by her uncle Richard Wurl, who went to look after some property interests in that section. Bates is assisting the Silver City band at the Malvern Fireman's Tournament, yesterday and today. Wm Grebe, a young man employed in the B. & M. lumber yard suffered a sunstroke Monday evening. Shortly after returning home in the evening he was seized with convulsions, and remained unconscious for several hours. (Dick) Barr, of this city re ceived the sad intelligence Monday of the death of his brother John C. Barr, which occurred at Lima, Ohio. The deceased was a member of Company D., Fifty-fourth O. V. I., and partici pated in many of the severest battles of the civil war. At the battle of Shiloh, his regiment was almost annihi lated. He was also with Sherman on his famous march to the sea.
