Peters, iuvestigaior of ani uial diseases at the agricultural ex periment station of the state univer sity, and receive! the following reply: "From what we can learn of the dis ease that is raging in your locality it is caused by the animals being fed on corn stalks. '1 he theory is that the corn stalks contain an excess of nitrate of potash, which the animals take up so abundantly that it causes these symptoms. You can Und this nitrate of potash in some fields, if you will take the ti ouble to cut down a few stalks, and set a match to them. If you find the stalks burn as if they con tained a quantity of powder, then you have povsv a the stalks. From the letter ibat we have sent out through out tho state to feeders, it is the opinion that the animals should not be turned into stalk fields before they have received a morning ration. Tbey claim that where they are fed in this way there is no danger of corn stalk disease. " lie Sold Whiskey. II. W. Fitz9immons eluded the crowd assembled at the depot and drove up town alone while the mob spent their enthusiasm cheer ing for the trainer, Dan Hickey, who they mistook for Fitzsimmons. In an interview this afternoon Fitz simmons said he was feeling well and was very confident that he would whip Corbett in ten rounds. He didn't want to do any boasting now, but would re serve that until after March 17, when be would have reason to talk. He said he was champion of the world now and would demonstrate that he was a bet ter man than Corbett. Fitzsimmons was not aware that Julian had selected Cook's ranch, three miles from Carson, for his train ing quarters until shown the United Associated presses dispatch from Car son. He expressed himself as highly pleased with tho selection, particu larly because the roads in that neigh borhood are good enough to ride a bi cycle on and he is fond of bicycling. He appeared in tna Grand opera house tonight in a sparring exhibition with Dan Rickey and in a wrestling match with Ernest Roeber and also punched the bag for a few minutes. The party stopped at tho Templeton hotel and will leave at noon tomorrow for Carson, where they will arrive on Saturday and Fitzsimmons will at once go into training. ISIOO Kewarcl SlOO.
