The republicans of Howard coun ty tendered a reception to Hon. A. K. Cndy, chairman ot the republican state central cointnittee.at the opera house lnt night, in which 40.) or 800 people participated, The people are very proud of Howard county's young statesman and enthusiastic ally indorse his course as their leader in the late successful cam paign. Last night they met to do him honor and presented him with a beautiful suakewood cane, the head of solid gold, engraved: "1892, Hon. A. K. Cady. From his Repub lican Vrtenda, St. Paul, Neb." The opera house was beautifully decorated with flags and portraits of the nation's statesmen. Several speeches were made, the band played and everybody was happy, A set of resolutions endorsing Mr. Cndy s actions as chairman of the central committee and a resident of that city were drafted and unani inously adopted. Lincoln Cull. On Thanksgiving eve Mayer Hrothers the well known clothiers on Tenth street, follows their usual custom, will give their annual sup per to the deserving poor children of this city. This entertainment of the Mayer Hros. has always been largely attended and each year the number which sets down to their tables is increased. The charity is entirely free to its character, with no distinction because of religion, race or circumstances, and is most creditable to the gentleman whose generosity and kindness of heart make this, an occasion of rejoicing forninny a poor child whose vis ions of Christmas and other holi days are never otherwise ralized' In order that all may be provided for, Mayer Dros. have placed tickets in the hands of every pastor in the city, and the ladies of every organization, and no admission may be had except by ticket. GRAND ISLAND'S SUGAR OUTPUT. The Oxford licet Sugar company has just closed its run on beets for the year 1891 It has been a highly successful year for beets. The Island company consumed in round numbers 12,000 tons of beets, making 2,110,100 pounds of sugar. The ex act figures as to the wages paid out during the season and the general acreage and per cent, of sugar have not yet been computed. FELL BETWEEN THE CAR9.
