The Chicago Triluiie is keepinj up its tirade against the protection policy of the republican party, and daily makes an exhibition of its se nile condition in attributing all the reverses the republican party has sustained to the IcKinley taritf law. Its allusion to the leading men who framed that law- and were re sponsible for its passage as having been repudiated by the people is evidence of the utter disregard for truth which seems to have ob tained a place in the Tribune sanc tum. ?lajor McKinley himself re ceived last fall the most remarkable indorsement a man could obtain. In a rock-ribbed democratic dis trict, constructed by an infamous gerrymander for the very ournose of defeating him. and having- a clear democratic majority of 'i.aOO, he came out in the minority l-onl-several hundred. Thomas B. Keed. too, was another man whose great energies were devoted, from the beginning of the Fifty-first con gress, to paving the way for the passage of the protective tariff although i oi an active member in framing it; and he, too. was returned to the Fifty-first congress by a ma jority unprecedented in his dis trict. Then there is our own con gressman, Julius C. Burrows, who had for his opponent the most pro nounced free trader in Iichi-aii, tiie very oracle of the free trade party in this part of the country, George L. Vaple. and vet Mr n, rows in spite of the landslide that swept through Michigan, due to various causes, escaped and was returned to congress, while others of the republican faith less promi nent in the passage of the McKin ley law went down in the tidal wave. The Tribune should take iinnih. position from which to discharge its treacherous shots at the repiib- lican party. The present attitude is ridiculotif Kalamazoo Telegraph.
