MORE RATE CUTTING. Llttlo Probability of an Agreement Among Western Lines. Chicago, Jan. 12. The impossibility of western roads at present agreeing upon any subject was demonstrated at the man agers' meeting today called for the avow ed pur io.se of preventing a reduct'on in i'.rain and live stock rates. The firatwas threatened by a notice of th 'Frisco road to the efftct that on January 10 it would reduce corn rates from southern Kansas to Ht. Louis, This was seized upon by somo of t lie roads as a pretext to reduce rates from Kansas City, and a meeting was called to prevent this if it could be done. The St. Louis & San Francisco offered at the meeting to modify it no tice or to eoiiline the effects to its own territory, but this the Alton refused and at once gave notice that it would, fiflein days from date, Januar' 27, make a 15 cent rate on grain from Kansas City to Chicago. This settled the matter and the reductions M ill be made. In the mat ter of live stock rates the I'ock Island stated that it had made a ten years' con tract with the Burton Car Company, winch it woald carry out, to transport live stock i;t the same rales as in ordinary cars. The ISurlingtiiii thereupon an nounced that it would make a lower rate of $7.20 and keep that much difference between the two classes of cars. The Central Iowa gave notice that it would lower Iowa grain rates 5 cents whenever the reduction in live stock was made. With this excellent prospect for a gener al demolizalion the meeting adjourned. Lost on tho Banks. Gloucester, Mass., Jan. 12.
