Hon. Geo. V. Covell, oue of Xebras-
ka's best democratic lawyers, who has
a record as a good lawyer, in all our I
courts, and who was in attendance I
upon ou- district court, left for his
home, in Xebiaska City, today. The
Hehald regrets to learn that sickness I
of drs. Covell was the cause of his
hurried return to Neb. City.
Tho democratic nominee lor mayor
of Indianapolis in his speech accepting
the nomination, said: "I will do my
best, if elected, to . fill the office of
mayor in a way that will bring succiss
ti the democratic party." The repub
lican nominee in bis speech of accept
ance said: "If I am elected I will en
deavor to discharge the duties of the
office tor the best interests of the citv,
believing that what is for the best in
terests of the entire community is best
for every portion of that community."
The two answers mark well the char
acteristics of the parties, says an ex
change; and it might have gone fait her

The follow ing from yesterday's Om
aha Republican bears the news of the
death of an old time resident of La
Platte, known and respected by many
of the older citizens of this city. The
funeral obsequies wcr e held yesterday
afternoon at L i Platte, ii iv. B.irgeis,
of this city, officiating:
l)r, Joseph 1. Luce, whose farm is
northwest of this city, adjoining tbe
tleaf and dumb institute, met his death
on Saturday evening at Fremont in a
singular and lamentable manner.
For some he has been deaiiug in baled
hay aud on this occas'-'-' as engaged
with another man in piling ,a a load. In
lifting a bale he slipped and fell and
struck the back of his neck agaiust the
sharp bouud edge of a bale which lay
behind him. Apparently unhurt. Dr.
Luce sprang to his feet, snd proceeded
0 load two bales more, when he sud.

Old man Younger was a noted
stockman, who was. killed by union
troops during the war. Eruce Y'onnger
a cousin of the noted bandits, is biaye
and courageous, possessing . all the
family traits in tluit respect. Bruce is
supposed to have .been connected with
the North Hampton bauk robbery.
Youngor was arrested for the kiiHng
of a man in San Antonio, Tex., about
five years ago.
The murder is sup

least a part of the old Jesse James and
Cole younger band, and a heavy re
ward was offered for the arrest of the
murderers. Jailer Lambert admitted
last evening that the detective held the
prieoner by virtue of a requisition from
the governor ot. Wyoming. Bruce
Younger has a brother named Al., and
this is probably the brother which is
also reported to have been captured.
In conversation yesterdav with with
a Nonpareil reporter, Mr. Younger said
that he had written to tke governor of
Texas, stating that if he wanted him he
would go at any time without a requi
sition. He says, however, that he is a
relative of the Al. Younger, spoken of
in the above article. .He also stated

who knew him, alt hough a great suffer
er during his fatal sickness he bore his

great resignation ; he leaves a widow
and three (married) daughters residing
in the neighborhood of Grand Prairie;
bis son, Charles II. TJabcock, who used
to reside in the same neighborhood, is
now a citizen of California.
The funeral -took place from the M
E. Church, in Weeping Water, Tuesday

Lorenzen came to Plattsmouth from
Bridgeport, Conn, in February 1881,
when their little boy was an infant The
funeral will take place from their resi
dence on tho corner of 13 and Timber
treets in tbe Second ward on Thutsdsy
next at 11 a. m. Mr. and Mrs. Lorenzen
will have the heartfelt sympathy of
our good people in this the hour of
their deep trouble.
