In our notice of losses sustained by
visitors to the state fair last week, we
failed to note the disappearance of 820
from the pocket of our friend, Wm.
Pierce, which occurred in this way :
he had safely seated himself in the
coach on his way home, when two or
three well dressed fellows attempted
to couple the bell cord, which seemed
to be in a hopeless tangle. They crowd
ed and jostled around him for a few
minutes when they got it fixed, and a
half an hour afterward Mr. Pierce
found he had been fixed too by the tak
ing of $20 which he had carried in an
inside breast pocket to his vest. The
diet rascals could not be fouud, and Mr.
Pierce returned home $20 wiser as well
a poorer.

Very seldom it is that a Plaits
mouth audience is more delighted
than they were last Saturday evening.
Katie Putnam one of the most tallen
tcd and renowned actresses on the
American stage with an exceptional
ly strong company appeared that eve
ning at the Waterman Opera House
in the comedy "Lena The Madcap"
and irom the rise of the curtain in
the first act to the good bye of Miss
Putnam at the close, the audience
was charmed and amused in i way
almost unknown to them heretofore.
Miss Putnam in her KCting is simply
charming anf it is all real life with
out a flavor of imitation. When she
prattles her lines the stage, the house
the audience, all are forgotten and
you see a rollicking girl in real life,
such as one reads about and occa
sionally meets. The play was sim
ple pretty and the plot natural and
not overdrawn. The entirey compa
ny were strong and eminentl satis
factory in their acting while the au
dience were delighted withthe enter
tainment entire.
