Baltimore, Aug 7. Ihc officials of
the Baltimore & Ohio telegraph com
pany make the statement that all the
operators at Camden station quit work
today. Not one remained. They have
reports from nearly every station along
their lines of road, and the number
striking and leaving their posts dees
not exceed a half dozen, and the places
have been supplied. The strike at
Camden station they sy, is not of a
serious nature, as the main office at
Baltimore and Calvert streets can be
used for all work of the Camden sta
tion. A WALK OUT.
Richmond, August 7. The strike of
the operators on the Chesapeake &
Ohio railroad causes no inconvenience
to the company, only a small propor
tion of the men having quit work. All
operators west of the White Sulphur
Springs remain at their posts. The
places of the strikers between Char
lottesville and White Sulphur Springs
were easily filled.
THE STRIKE NOT GENERAL.
Chicago, August 7. From the beet
ad .ices attainable it appears that very
few operators have left the employ
ment of the Wabash and Chicago &
Alton roads. It was expected that the
full effect of the strike would be felt at

Liverpool says James McDormott ar
rived there yesterday on a vessel from
America and was remanded to jail on
charge of being engaged in the conspi
racy to murder public officials.

THE REVOLUTION IX SPAIN.
London, Aug. 7. The Times corres
pondent at Madrid says the rising of
the military at Badojos ended in a most
undignified manner. Very little harm
was done by the insurgents beyond
slight damage to the railroads and the
robbery of regimental and municipal
moneys. It is doubtful whether the
movement was a serious one. In some
quarters the outbreak is considered
only Dart of the programme of a gigan
tic stock-jobbing operation, induced by
a certain clique, which for a long lime
has been making extraordinary efforts
to destroy the credit of Spain.

THE NAKONAL DEBT BILL.
London, August 7. In the house of
commons the the national debt bill pass
ed to second reading by a vote of 143 to
95. The bill proposes to replace the
terminable annuities expiring in 1885.
The effect will be in twenty years to
cancel 173,000.000 pounds of the nation
al debt. Among the opponents of the
bill arc the Irish members and some
conservatives that would gain by the
expiration of the annuities.

George, sentenced to hang Friday, will
not be executed, the case having been
appealed to the supreme court, and a

A FRIGHTFUL TRAGEDY.

Bloomfield, two miles from here, one of
the most frightfnl tragedies that ever
shocked the community was enacted
last night. The invalid wife of Louis
Lawrence, a well known Baltimore
Lawyer, in a fit of insanity, caused by
disease, shot her husband, by her side
through the head, killing liim instantly,
The affair in detail is sad and shocking.
Mrs, Lawrence is a cousin of Samuel
Ilasze), who recently killed Charles
Ridgeley White in Iloword Count'. Sha
is also a cousin of John Fally, John
Richard Johns, brothers, who commit
ted suicide. All were suffering from in
sanity at the time of the tragedies.

A CAVE-IX.
Wilkesbarre, August 7. A serious
cave-in at the Pine Ridge mine, of the
Deleware & Hudson company, took
place today. The disaster has been ex
pected for some time, and no loss of
life occurred . The caving is confined
to the interior of the mine. The sur
face at no place is affected. Woric is
suspended la a large portion of the col-
colliery nntil the exact situation of af
fairs is ascertained. The loss will bo
great.

paper mill belonging to Bradner, Smith
& Co., of Chicago, burned early this
morning. Loss, 22,000; insurance,
$22,000.
WAREHOUSES AND STABLES.
Philadelphia, August 8. The ware
houses and wharves of the Knicker
bocker ice company, extending along
the rive front from Front street to Del
aware avenue, below Willow street, and
the-stables of the company, which oc
cupy a large part of the block bounded
by Delaware avenue, Beach street and
Willow and Boltonwcods streets, burn
ed tonight. Only four out of fifty-one
horses and mule3 were saved. Forty-
three horses and four mules suffocated
or burned. 2,005 tons ot ice were ues
troyed. The roof of the Philadelphia
& Erie railway freight depot, adjoining,
burned, and considerable freight was
damaged by fire and water. The loss
is estimated at $50,000.

mill used for storing hay burned this
morning, and three unknown tramps
stopping there were burned to death.
Only one of the bodies, was recovered.
