established a canning factory there,

The company are receiving extra sup
plies la the coal line these days, and are
employing extra help in storing It for
winter use.
In the machine shops and round
house, repairs on locomotives are at
tractine the attention of the boys. A.
& N. yard engine No. 51, and locomo
tives Nos. S9, IK) ami Ul are receiving
overhauling and repairs.
Several of the new express cars for
the road, and a number of the "Aurora'
coaches have arrived, and are ready for
duty.
In the car building department work
has iaKt been commenced on two new
outfitting cars. They are to be CO feet
in length, with upper and lower bunks,
to accommodate C8 men. As soon as
completed they are to be used on some
new branch, among tne number the
company have in contemplation.
Lust Friday tho paint shops turned
out, four coaches that had been in for
repairing and varnishing, and the)' are
now on duty on the road. Five or six:
ii. ore are occupying the attention or
tbe painters, and they will be sent out
as soon as completed.
Thirteen men, in addition to the reg
ular force, have been employed by the
company the last week.
It. D. Gallagher, is at work prepar
ing drawings and the plan of the compa
ny's oil house .here for the Atchison,
Topeka & Same Fe R. R., which com
pany will build one at Topeka.
Four surveying outfits have been fit
ted out by the store department during
the last month, and are out now in the
field. Another outfit will be started
out at once, which may explain the ru
mors of a survey to the southwest.
An electric light outfit has just been
tested and sent out. The engine for it
was constructed at the shops here, and
all works entirely satisfactory. It was
fitted up and put up for work in tbe
gravel pit, at Salem, on the A. & N. di
vision, where it has been sent.
Mr. C. S. Dawson, who has had
charge of the store department ever
since the road has been established here,
will go to Topeka to accept a like po
sition for the Atchison, Topeka & San
te Fe R. R. The company in parting
with Mr. Dawson lose a roan who is A
No. l.ln his position. Ilia successor
has not yet been appointed.
The Teacher's Institute a Success
Already.
Up at the Institute everything is
progressing very finely today, and the
enrollment is over. double that of yes
terday, some fifty new members being
in attendance. The Institute it cer
tainly an entire success, and Professors
Drummond and Harris nre busily en
gaged during the morning and after
noon conducting the classes. A num
ber of the gentlemen in attendance
have requested Prof. Drummond to
conduct a chemistry' class outside of
tbe regular Institute course, and he
will probably arrange for such a class.
The lectures before the Institute will be
arranged for so as to bo held evenings
next weet. They will be interesting
features in the two weeks course.

post in front of Unruh's furniture
store cutting a frightful gash in the
breast of one of the mares; whether
the injury will prove a fa'.al one or not,

mal was immediately taken to the liv

comments on Doctor Chase's appoint

Donnelly started for Denver and the
mountains this morning to be gone a
week or two on a pleasure trip. No
two men in town deserve a respite from
their labors more than Messrs. Dutton
and Donnelly.

Fair (except specimen fruit, grain and
vegetables which will be billed tree)
must be prepaid to Omaha. On pre-i
6entation to the agent Omaha of a cer
tificate from the secretary of the Fair
that the goods have actually been on
exhibition they will be returned free
on presentation of the same certificate
to the agent at the station from which
the shipment was originally made, the
prepaid charges will be refunded, pro
vided that all the articles shipped to
Omaha be returned.1 If any part of the
original consignment be disposed of
at Omaha, the agent will retain such
proportion of prepaid charges as may be
duo nt tariff rates to Omaha on the ar
ticles not returned. The certificate of
the secretary of tho State Fair must be
surrendered to the R. R. agent when
the prepaid charges or any part of them

the old League the Chicago club has
made rapid strides to the front during
the past ten days, standing very little
behind Providenco and Cleveland, who

The Death of Mrs. John O'Keefe A
Good Woman none to the Great
Beyond.
After thirteeu weeks of patient suf
fering, with scarcely a murmur, the
spirit of Mrs. John O'Keefe has wend
ed its way to its Giver. Death has
chimed a shining mark ; a god, true
and noblo woman litis pasHud to the

She died ns mIic bad lived, a (iod fear
ing and God-loving woman. She pars
ed away like a child going to sleep, at
ten o'clock yesterday morning, sur
rounded by her four children, hiihanl,
sisN-rs and others she loved "i well in
life.
Mr O'Keefe came to Nebraska
about fifteen or sixteen years ago, set
tling in Plattsmouth with her parents.
Here she met and was wooed and won
by the man who mourn her los.
She lias many friends throughout the
slate who will be sorry to hear of her
demise.
The funeral will take pi ice at 10
o'clock this morning from the family
