Like all young, zealous, political con- j

true blue Democratic rule of Andy

Yet he is a demagogue, and being a
demagogue, he presumes upon the ig

FACTS.
To our democratic friends vh 1 are
hunting for arguments in favor of a
change, we desire to submit a few plain
statistics. They would naturally raise
the cpuestion, Could democracy have
done better? The close of the fiscal
year shows that during the year 1883 3
our public debt was reduced almost
$138,000 000, and that during the month
of June, when the revenues are . nol
specially large, the reduction amounted
to over $18,000,000, the largest in any
one month under the existing system of
taxation. In August, 1863, the bonded
debt of the United States was $3,381,
530, 304, of which $l,281,736,o30 bore
0 per cent; 8;50,000,000 7 per ;cent, and

less than they were in 1865. Now the
interest charge on the public , debt is
$01,430,709. i,In other words, the - 4n

years, and the interest change almost

the case of "Chiictiajn Schlu: !. vs the
Ti. Ac M. in Neb." This is llu case in
which Mr. Schluutz brought action
against the rrilroad Company for dam
ages to his Cedar Creek mill property,
occasioned by the construction of a
switch through this prone: ty to Y. fl
E. Stout's stone quarry ; in the trial of
the case iu the district court of Cass
county, Mr. Schluntz recovered, at the
hands of a jury, a judgment for $1,509.
The railroad carried the case to the su
preme court, where it was yesterday de
Cided in Mr. Scbluntz's favor; on ae
count of the questions arising: in this
case, and as presented by the record, it
will prove an interesting and leading
case upon the question of the measure
of damage, and competency of evidence
and Droof in this class of cnes. Th
