FRAUDULENT LAND ENTRIES.
Over six hundred reports have been
received by the commissioner ol the
general land ofSce from thirty special
agents engaged in the investigation of
fraudulent land entries up to July 1. In
mauv of these cases supplemental re
ports have been called for, covering
points which were not sufficiently spe
cific to warrant official action. About
S30 of the receipts show sufficient evi
dence o: fraud to justify the land of
fice in summarily cancelling the en
tries. Tho records show that without
nn exception the fraudulent entriesf
whether homestead or premption, cover
the lull area of land allowed by law,
namely 2G0 acres. The land already
restored to the dublic domain upon the
reports of thete agents aggregate about
58,000 aenM, a great deal of which i3
located ia rich valleys, and held by the
government at double the minimum
price of 2.50 per acre. The approxi
mate saving to the government already
effected by the land ofiiee is estimated
ht ?IS3,000. It is maintained that tlise
