the southwestern portion of Omaha,
doing slight damage to several houses

New York, May 17. Arrangements
are completed for opening the Brook
lyn bridge on the 24th. The major ol
Brooklyn issued a proclamation de
claring the opening a holiday. Public
olltces, courts and schools will be closed,
and citizens are requested to close
their places of business. The I 'resi
dent and (Jovernor will be given a re
ception in the Academy of Music at
Prooklyn.
RAILROAD RIOT.
Boseman, Montana, May 17. The
Sheriff of this county received a tele
gram Tuesday night from Gallatin
City, stating a riot had occurred among
the laborers of the Northern Pacific
reihvay, and that the town was in the
hands of the mob. Shoriff Blackleg
and posse armed at once, and arriving
at Gallatin, surrounded it and com
pelled all to throw up their hands.
The leader w ete arrested and jailed.

Topeka. May 17. Twelve citizens of
Dodge City have been in Topeka since
half past three o'clock this afternoon
in consultation with (Jovernor Click
concerning the muddle at Dodge City.
They represented to him that the coun

cyclone lasted oniy a iititaite, but the

illness of juror, George B. Sherifl. no
nroiircss was made in Hie star route
trial today. Defore the court adjourned
Judge Wylie referred to the crazy law-
year. EuLrliind, who still frenucnts the
court house, and declared it whs a dis
grace that the proper authorities had
not taken charge of him. The court
had ordered the bailifi' to exdude him
from the court hotts, an 1 lor tiiis he
had threatened to shoot the personnol of
the court. Of course, this threat woidd
have been disregarded had they been
made by a sane person, but as it was,
no one knew what might be acted upon
by the unfortunate man. Adjourned
until tomorrow. '

Berlin, May 17. It is semi oliicially
announced that the reply of Prussia to
the last note of the Vitican makes no
reference to an organic revision of the
May laws. It is stated that Bismarck
has informed friends at the Vatican that
it will never again receive such favora

the city, arriving at 5 p. in.
A banquet to-night at Abner'a sum
mer garden closed Frid ty. About 400
members and citizens of Washington
sat down to well tilled tables. The
garden was beautifully decorated with
downs, evergreens and bunting, and
from the galleries a brilliant a-scm-blage,
largely composed of ladies, over
looked the scene. The full marine
band furnished music for the occasion,
assisted by the gleo club of twenty
singers. The music was of a martial
character, ccnaisting riuciially of
arrangements of soldiers song in the
rebellion. At the principal tables
were seated officers of the society and
