Donovan, gelling in a heavy blow,

Chicago, April 10. Captain-John
J. Jones, lately a. banker of Iiostor.,
who was arretted here last Wednes
day at the instance of John ile-ile, of
Boston, on the allegation that he
failed to account for a $1,000 boud
belonging to Ileile, charges the po
lice of Chicago with inhuman and
cruel treatment; that on the pretext
of bringing him in court to give
bail he was secretly removed to a
station in the outskirts of the place
in a dark cell for two days. The
only food or drink he obtained wa3
three buns and a cup of coifee, which
he persuaded his keeper to buy for
him, he paying lor the same; that
the cell in which he was placed was
over run with rats, and falling asleep
from exhaustion he was badly bit
ten." Inquiring friends could learn
nothing ot Jones' whereabouts. He
denied the charger made by Hc7e
He paid a portion, and then failed.
Jones is the man who figured so
prominently in the noted Pond di
vorce case in Boston. ;

the country on junketing feasts at the
public, expense to gather culminating

telligent workmen, who are the aggriev

Dublin, April 10 The trial of Joe
Brady, indicted yest-rday for the mur
der of Lord Frederick Cavendish and
Burke, which was to have begun today
has been postponed until tomorrow,
owing to Dr. Webb Adams, who was
appointed by Judge O'Brien to act as
Counsel for Brady, declining to con
duct the defense of the prisoner. Ad
ams gave as his reason that he was
not prepared. The court house was
strongly guarded today.
