in Forest City 9tarted below Cnllin's
hotel and spread so rapidly that in a
short time all the business houses in
the town weie ablaze, a strong easter
ly breeze blowing. H. Miller" hotel
keeper, was burned to death. Losses
run into hundreds of thousands; 1 eiv
ily covered by insurance. Only a few
dwellings are left. At Jast accounts a
desperate effort is being made to save
the Bald mountain works.

Powell's gin house, on the Mississippi
side opposite here, burned last night,
filled with nero refugees who barely
escaped with their lives in the over
flow. A child was dro ned in the. ex
