PFCOGNIZING BLAIN'S SERVICES
The address to ilr. lilaine of the

the appreciation of the great ser

Mr. IJlai tie's policy of reciprocity.
Tlie signers of the address do not
belong to any one party. The names
of democrats as well as republicans

The magnificent stroke of states

OUR CENTER OF POPULATION.
Tin-: census bulletin just issued,
showing the shifting of the center
of populai ion for the last hundrod
1 years, is interesting as tracing the
course of the tide of population.
When the first census was taken in
ITiK) the center of population was
twenty-three miles cast of Balti
more. During the succeeding ten
years the population increased in a
westward direction, with the result
that the center of population at the
opening of the present century had
shifted to a point about eighteen
miMs west of Baltimore. Ten years
later it was forty miles north-west
from Washington.
