Sometimes a cheaper kind of altar is
mado by placing iu tho ground a single
peeled stick with its upper end split in

; platform abovo described. Tho noxt
process is to hang an anclia, or square
frame, about 18 inches each way iu the
smelting houso just under tho eaves of
tho roof. This serves as an interior
altar, upou which thu miners place theb
offerings to thu hantu. Tho accurate
(hanging up of tho nucha is a matter of
ipecial care.
