he declared, would bo launched in that
year on comparatively the same basis
and contain essentially the same planks
in 1800. The party would declare for

thought about the only addition to or
change in the party platform of any
moment would bo a plank relative to

Methodn liy AVlilefi the Kill I Noiirlih.
ment of the Mont Is lix- o
truoteil.
The first of the methods here given
makes surely a genuine extmct.uf beef,
containing till tin! strengthening prop
erties and the full nourishment of the
meat. If the stomach of the Invalid is
quite weak.this extract is not gtveiHTi
Its full strength, but it is diluted with
hot water until it is of the strength
desired by the physician. Jn making
this tea or extract always select the
jueiest part of the beef quite without
regard to its tenderness, indeed, tho
tenderer the meat is the less juicy it
will be found. The lower part of the
round is usually found Mo be the best
for beef ten. It must he absolutely free
from fat only the lean meat being avail
able. Cut the beef into quarter-inch
dicc-slmpedpicces, and put them into
a wide-mouthed bottle and set it on a
stand of some kind in a keltic of eold
water. This is to raise tne jar and let
the water under it, so that the glass will
not be on the bottom of the kettle, as
it would almost to rt certainty break
unless it was thus protected. Set the
kettle over the lire and heat it grad
ually. When it conies to a boil keep
it gently simmering for several hours,
until the meat is perfectly white, look
ing like pieces of Jndia-rubber, all the
juice being extracted. Then strain out
the juice, press it nil out from the
pieces of meat, and season to the taste
with salt. To make the ten more quick
ly cut one half pound of the juicy round
freed from all fat into small pieces,
season with a saltspoonftil of salt, press
it with a wooden pcrtato-mashcr, and
let it stand in a covered bowl for half
an hour. Tour oil" the juice, and heat,
but do not boll it. Serve it immediate
ly without straining. The salt will
draw out only a portion of the juice
from the meat, so a beef-tea mny bu
made from the meat after the juice has
been poured oft" the first time by add
ing out: cupful of cold water to it and
letting it stand for a couple of hours,
then strain olV the water, pressing the
meat to get out all the juice, heat it,
and you will have a very palatable cup
of tea a little less strong than the first,
hut good notwithstanding. Sallie Joy
White, in Woman's Home Companion.
WONDERFUL NEW BATTERY.
Invention of an Kl cot rli-u I Mutineer

per Done Awiij' With.
Cheap electricity, to be generated by
chemicals that may be carried about
in one's pockets, is what is promised by
a concern calling itself the National
Light & Power company of New York.
The discoverer of tiic new process for
developing electricity is John Post, an
electrical engineer. The promoters of
the company claim that their new proc
ess will create a revolution in electric
service. Frank P. Walton, one of tho
directors, said:
"We do entirely without the use of
copper, which lias hitherto been an in
dispensable p;irt of the batteries. In
to OS per cent, of water you drop two
per cent, of the chemical from its cap
sules, and you get the electricity. Zinc
nnd wire are used, as in other batteries,
but the zinc lasts a great deal longer iu
ours.
"It is with automobiles that we look
for a great share of success. Our bat
teries are so comparatively light and
they last so long withoiiTrecharging
that long trips can be nindo without
any trouble, and the vehicles can be of
light nnd graceful construction."
