A cold wave struck us Friday oven ing, and for soveral days tho mornings were almost cool enough to make a fire necessary for comfort Newt Jarvis has bought the roar end of the old Titus Btoro room north of the drug store, which ho is tearing down and moving out on his farm. Tho first car of corn to be shipped to Now York city from Nemaha was sent out Monday night. It was shipped by Harry McCandloss to Armour & Co. Mr. and Mtb. Henry Williams drove up from Shubert Sunday morning. Henry drove back in tho afternoon. Mrs. Williams and the children nro vis iting here yet. Geo. W. Burgess and family loaded up their household effects tho first of the week and started for Franklin county, Nebraska, where they expect to make their home for awhile, Green Burgess recently traded for George Burgess' house, north of the park, and in a few days traded It to Mrs. Emma IIoulc. Mrs. Houk expects to move to Nemaha about the first of next month. Mr. and Mrs. II. W. Shubert gave us a pleasant call Thursday afternoon. Moses Banks informs us that David Frazier has moved from Galena, Kas., to Carl Junction. Mo. Thoy drove in from their homo at Beatrico, starting Wednesday noon. Mr. Ros sell is a brother of Mrs. J. B. Borger, and Mrs. Lorance is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merger and a sister of Mrs. W. W. Sanders and Mrs. Bon Parker. Tho prohibitionists had a meeting at tho Methodist church Wednesday night. Rev. C. II Gilmore made the principal uddress. Short talks wero mado by R. V. Muir, chairman of tho prohibit tion county central oommittoe, and by I'rof. Huckins, of Nebraska City. I'rof. Huckins also entertained tho au dience with singing, which was thor oughly enjoyed by all present, as tho professor is a splendid singor. There was a fight in Nemaha Mon day night, ono of our citizens knocking another ono down. The first fellow then went boforo 'Squire Gilbert, plead guilty to disturbing the peace, and was fined S!-l and costs $1 for each blow struck which he paid. This movo was decided upon hocauso the majority of tho members of tho band wero more directly interested In Ne maha than in Brownvillo. Tho band is u good one, with twolvo members, nearly all of whom aro native born No braskans. Tho baud talks of giving weekly concerts If proper oncournge mont is given.
