Nemaha friends Monday and Tuesday.
Harvey Thompson has had a good
sidewalk laid in front of his barber
shop.
Mr. and Mrs. LouiB Lemon, of Bara-
ca, are rejoicing over tho birth of a
fine boy.
D. A. Morton moved his shop into
the Titus & Williams store room a few
days age.
Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Veedur returned
home from Wymore Friday oveuing ol
last week.

Mrs. Frank Hawxbv, who has been
visiting Mrs. Annie Field, at Shena
doah, Iowa, returned home Thursday.
Mrs. J. W. Taylor came down from
Lincoln last Saturday night, on a visit
to her many friends in Nemaha nnd
vicinity.
Mrs. Jas. Wolfe, of Hillsdale, and
Mrs. Jno. Kempthorne attended Suns
day school and preaching at the Cham
pion, last Sunday afternoon,

JimTituB says Joe Flack eat twenty
two ears of corn at one moal at the
Titus residence a few days ago. Hut
Jim says corn is cheap, so he is making
no kick.
Miss Florence Minick attempted to
kill a mouse Thursday, but came off
second best,as she hit her elbow against
a chair and bruised it badly. The
mouse escaped.
Dr. H. H. Smith, wko located at
Brownville a few months ago. has do
ciaed to locate at some other point, as
he find it almost impossible to make
any collections.
WIllThompson had one finger caught
in the cogs of a corn sheller a few days
ago, and it was badly lacerated. Dr.
Melvin dressed the wound, and is in
hopes he can save the finger, though it
is badly crushed
While Ned Crother vraa performing
on a trapeze last Friday tho rope broke
and Ned foil to tho ground, lighting on
his head and shoulders, breaking tho
collar bone. Dr. Melvin patched him
up, and Ned thinks he is now haying
his full share of suffering.
Rtv. Peter Van Fleet, presiding el
der of the Nebraska City district of the
M. E. church, was the guest of Rot.C.
IT. Giliuore Thursday. He wont to
Shubert in tho afternoon.
Tho Bryan men celebrated the nom
ination of their hero for president last
Friday night by the firing of dynamite,
sky rockets, otc. The only thing that
marred their joy was the fact that the
McKlnley boys would persist in yelling
louder for MoiCinloy than thoy possi
bly could for Bryan.
Tho sad news comes of tho death of
the wife of Fred Huntington, a formor
resident of Bedford procinct. but who
moved to California a fow months ago
on account of his wife's health. The
sad event occurred Monday. The de
ceased leaves a husband and four chIN
dren to mourn her loss.
Mrs. Wm. Colorick. who was called
to Fair bury, Ills., last week by tho at
tempted suicide of her son Charley, re
turned homo Tuesday. Charley came
with her, having recovered sufficiently
to bo brought home, He says ho got
tired of living, aud therefore tried to
kill himself.
'Gono Combs was in town several
days thiB week, in tho interest of the
Kansas City commission firm for
which ho Is traveling. 'Gene says he
attended the Bryan ratification moot
ing at Auburn Monday night, and Bays
it was the thinnest ratification meets
lug ho ever attended. Tho demo-pops
bo 'Gene says, had to hire u lot of small
boys to join the procession in order to
make a decent bIiow.
B. G. Whittomore, of Auburn, was
taken before Judge Stall, of the district
court, on Tuesday, charged with rape,
an account of which was given iu last
week's paper. Whittemoro plead guil
ty to the ohargo last week, when taken
before Judge Lambert, but on Tuesday
changed the plea to not guilty, claiming
lie did not kuow two meaning of the
word rape. Judgo Stull bound him
over to tho next terra of district court
on $7,000 bond, which it not likely the
prisoner will be able to give.
A jolly crowd of young pooplo wore
in Nemaha an hour or two Tuesday
evening. They came down from 1'eru
and Brownville on tho freight, bound
for McCandless Siding on a visit to Mr.
and Mrs. Harry McCandless, and as
the twin had to lie hero while the en
gino went to Auburn after stock, the
people came up town dming that time.
The crowd consisted of Di. Dickinson.
Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Foidyce, and Miss
James, from Peru, W. II, Royce and
Miss'Frances Royce.of Brownvlllo, and
Misses Mary Seabrooke, May Galvin
aud Lillie Worthing, of Omaha.

A good many years ago an old set
tlers' association for Nemaha county
was organizod in Brownylllo, but died
down iu a short timo. A fow years
ago tho socioty was reorganized at No
mitha, and T. J. Majors elected presi
dent and David Campbnll, wo believe,
secretary. The next year the picnic
was held at Peru and tho next year at
Auburn. Then the association almost
died down. Four or five years ago it
was revivod again at Nemaha, and
siuco that time meetings havo been
held each yoar. Now tho Auburn
people, or a fow of them, propose to
gobble up tho whole thing and have
tho picnics held at Auburn in tho fu
ture, and they do this without consult
ing with tho old settlors. Hut Nemaha
intends to go ahead and havo the nus
nual picnic just the same.

years, whs compelled to resign that
position, by reason of her romoval to
anotlior state, and at the meeting of
tbo same organization hold last Sun
day, tho following resolutions were
unanimously adopted:
Whereas, During the tlmo that
Mrs. Nellie Slater has been superin
tendent of this Leaguo it has made
unprecedented advancement both iu
membership and spirtual wolfaro, and
Whereas, These results havo been
accomplished only aftor n great
amount of hard labor, on tho part of
the superintendent who has always
been found working faithfully for tho
advancement of the Lord's causo In
our midst, theroforo, bo It
Resolved, That this league extend to
our late superintendent its Blncere
thanks as a small token of respect for
her zeal and untiring olTorts and thor
oughness in advancing the interests of
our beloved league, and although das
ploring her departure from our midst,
