LINCOLN
PROBLEMS
COUNTY TAX
EXPLAINED
A SEMES OF TIMELY ARTICLES
DEALING WITH COUNTY
. AND CITY
Tho vnrlntlon In tho taxes for school
purposes in Lincoln county is not con
fined to tho city and villago schools.
In tho rural districts ono finds a var
iety of conditions and a wide variation
in tho rate of taxaton. Tho present
study is taken on tho amount of tax
paid on each $1,000 valuation. For
instanco a man in district 129 who
has property assessed to tho amount
of $1,000 paid $3 in taxes for tho
support of tho schools in that dis
trict. In District No. 113 a man with
tho samo proporty assessed at tho
same amount would pay $37 for school
purposes. On tho samo basis wo havo
selected tho five districts where tho
tax paid on each $1,000 valuation was
tho highest and where it was tho
lowest. Hero they are:
District Amount
113 $37.00
133 $35.00
13i $32.00
126 $26.00
100 ' $25.00
129 $ 3.00
27 $ 4.00
22 $ 4.00
9 $ 4.00
5 $ 4.80
Tho above are tho extremes. No at
tempt is made hero to analyze tho
causes but it is probable that there
arc good reasons and it is almost
certain that if tho quality of the school
wore examined tho reason would bo
apparent.
Note: In our issue of July 4. tho table
was on tho basis of per capita tax for
school purposes. It should have been
tho tax per $1,000 valuation for school
purposes." Tho figures wero correct
but tho heading was wrong. ,
