Elliott, formerly of this city, had the degree of master of science conferred upon him last week at the commencement exerciscB of the Rose Polytechnic Institute at Terre Haute, Ind. Girl wanted at Steam Laundry. Dr. Beattie returned from a business trip to Lincoln last night and is ngain at his work in the Junior Normal. While absent ho made the commence ment address at the Clay County Eighth Grade promotion exercises. Supt. Ebright conducted chapel services Monday in Mr. Beattie's stead. The meeting of the 1911 national educational association will bo held at San Francisco July 8 to 10. A special car -for Nebraskans has been arranged for and a largo number of instructors of the state are going. With the work of the institute and normal to fully occupy their time it is not likely that any Lincoln county teachers will attend. In this issue Henry Fulk. living near Sutherland, announces his candidacy for the democratic nomination for county commissioner. Mr. Fulk is ono of the recognized democrats of Lincoln county, he has resided in the county for n long term of years, and from a republican veiwpoint the greatest error ho ever committed waB when a young man he arrayed himself with the demo cratic hosts. Otherwise Mr. Fulk is a good fellow. Miss Jano Cushing left Saturday night for her home in Sidney where she will spend tho summer vacation. Louis Macoy of Gannett must be leaking improvements at his fino home with the lumber he took homo Satur day. A social meeting of tho Lutheran brotherhood was held Inst night at the home of Frank Bictzer. Excellent re freshments wore served and an inter esting and profitable evening enjoyed. At a previous meeting money was raised by tho members present for renaintinc tho parsonage and at this meeting committeo of throe was des ignated to proceed with letting tho contract for the work. Commandant Schutz of tho Hiih School Cadets was awarded the Stnrr Clothing Co's. rifle medal to Lieulennnt Will Votaw. This medal was awarded for the best marksmanship in tho rillo contest at the Cadet camp at Gothen bum. Althouch the shoot was not en tirely completed Will's record was so much better than anyone else that there was no criticism of the award. Mr. Vandorhoof of tho Star was tho donor of the medal.
