Eighth and Locust Alcompact has been entered into be tween Lincoln and Penver parties, as sisted by Republican valley towns, whereby it is hoped 10 have tho across-the-Btato highway run through the south part of the stare instead of along the Union Pacific. To accomplish this re sult they are doing considerable hustling, and it behooves tho towns in the Platte alley to wake up to the importance of this highway and get busy. There is no question but that the Platte valley from Omaha to Juleshurg is the best route and the one that should bo selected, but if no move is made toward securing the road it is dead certain that it will bo captured by the "Republican valley boosters. Attorney Brandcis, who . agreed to show the railroads how to savo a million a day, didn't get the opportunity to do so from the railroads, but j he is doing it in another way. Ho Has had himself interviewed by a magazinist, who is publishing his plan,. Tho latter hasn't got very far in his work, but he is doing Mr. Mr. Brandcis proud as far as ho has gone, The principal trouble as it appears, is that Wall street has hold of the railroads and of tho steel, oil and other companies from- which the railroads buy, and each is played against tho other1 to Wall strtet's profit. Tho public, as well as the rail roads, thought Mr. Brnndois exagger ated, but it begins to appears he might have bebn at least within hailing distance of tho truth. -Fremont Tm bune. For Rent.
