Engineer Congdon is nble to be on tho streets today nftcrcoon being con fined to the house for ten days with a threatened attack of nppcndicils. Work train engine 1902 and ono of the switch engines came together in the yards oarlyycstorday morning, The tank of the former wns damaged to some extent und tho pilot knocked off of the latter. It now develops that part of the ?75,000,000 recently appropriated will be used in extending tho Union Pacific's North River lino through to Medicine Bow. Tho extension from Northport to Gering will be mado this year, and li the money market in 1912 is not too tight the contract will bo lot from Goring to Medicine Bow. The estimated cost of the lino is $13,000,000. The Union Pacific expected to 'nlnco a now time-card in effect last Sunday the principal change being a night train out of Omaha. This was thwarted, however. by the people living between Columbus ana Umaha objecting to sotting back the departure of train No. 23 from nftflrnonn tnnlcrhf nnd tnrAr tVin mnffr up with tho railway commission. The hearing took placo at Lincoln yesterday but tho result has not been learned. Tho passenger cnginos on the Union Pacific, and especially those in service between North Plntto and Grand Island, are in prutty bad shape, and freight engines nre being pressed into Borvice daily. This ia through no fault of Dist. Foreman Berry, it is simply a refusal on the part of his superior officers to allow needed work done on passenger engines, the machinery of which is in good shape but tho fire boxes are in awfully bad condition. There are to day fivo or six of tho 100 class practically out of use on account of their fire boxes. ' For Sale. McCarty died at tho Physician & Surgeons' hospital Satur day night following an operation for tho removal of a tumor Thursday, ia which operation the hospital physicians were assisted by a specialist from Om aha. Tho tumorous growth was of long standing, making the operation a critical one, and though the patient rallied from the immcdlnto effect, her weakentd condition, which had existed prior to tho operation, could not counteract the shock to tho system. The deceased, who resided In Wood River, was tho wifo of M. I. McCarty, the proprietor of the North Side drug Btoro and the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Bowcn, who have been residents of North Platto for a year or more. She had visited In the city a number of times, and thoso who formsd her acquaintance speak very highly of hr, and in her home town of Wood River she was respected and held in high esteem by nil, being a leader in church, club and social circlos. Tho funeral was held from tho homo of her parents this afternoon, Rev. Larimer, of Wood River, conducting the services, assisted by mombors of the Eastern Star, of which order she was a member. Harold Chamberlain Dies. Harold Chamberlain, seventeen year old son of Dist. Supt. Chamberlain, died nt an Omaha hospital Saturday night following an operation performed for appendicitis a week before. Tho boy had bcn troubled with nppendicitis for about two years, and the reoccurenceof tho disease being more frequent, an operation became necessary. Following the receipt of the telegram Rev. Chamberlain and other members of the family went to Omaha Sunday noon. The remains will bo taken to Malvern, Iowa, for interment, at which placo the mother was buried but a couple of months ago. Surely Rov. Chamberlain has been called upon to drink the cup of sorrow during the past fuw months, and to him the sympathy of our people go forth. Buy Picture Shows. M. C. Westfall nnd W. J. Hcndy have purchased the two picture shows at Kearney and took possession of them yesterday. The Big Musical Sensation. "Madnmo Sherry," tho world's big musical sensation, "with its merry quips that havo had Chicago, Now York and St. Louis laughing with puro delight, will come to tho Keith Thentro for ono perfortrnnco on Monday night, Feb ruary 20. This charming musical production of fered by Woods, Fruzoo and Lederor, has been breaking records for atten dance in the metropolis nnd ovcry other city where it has been seen, nnd its phenomenal box office success is only equalled by its favorable roccption nt the hands of tho public mid critics. It combines tho best and most nlluring in music, comedy that is fresh, wholesomo and spontaneous, a cast of wonderful excellence, its own splendid orchestra, costumes nnd stngo settings thnt fairly dazzle the eye all staged by that mas ter mind of musical comedy, George W. Lederor. ''Madam0 Sherry" is a French vau deville which captivated Paris for two seasons, and versions of which wore n success in London und Berlin. Tho American adoption was made by Otto Hauerback and Karl Hoschua furnished the fascinating score. Unliko tho ma jority of musical comedies, the songs, lyrlca nnd dances in "Madamo Sherry" are directly related to tho story of the comedy, and thoro is a plausible excuse for every -musical interruption. Many of tho musical gemB of "Madamo Sherry" have become popular all over tho world, especially "Every Little Movement." The Btory of "Madamo Sherry" would be amusing even without ouch an entrancing musical setting. The merry action first devolops in tho Now York studio of Edward Sherry; then the comedy shifts to tho salon of a palatial yacht anchored in New York Harbor, while the final act occurs on the after deck of the same craft, by- moonlight, with Coney Island's lights dancing in the distance. The entiro production from tho open ing curtain to tho final chorus, is all that has been said of it by the' metrop olitan press and magazines a raro delight. North Platte is the only city in tho state outside of Omaha to see "Mad ame" Sherry" this season. Card of Thanks.
