Dr. Quigley loft this morning for Sutherland to preform an operation on Mrs. Beliel. Tho Presbyterian aid speietywill meet Thursday afternoon with Mrs. Maurice Fowler, instead of nt the church. Messrs. Geo. and Reed Smith re turned to Sidney last night after a weeks visit at tho homo of F. W. Jones. Weather forecast: Cloudy tonight and Wednesday; colder. Tho maximum temperature yesterday was 40, a year ago 42, minimum this morning 24, a year ago 21. Geo. E. Stearns has sold his resi dence property in tho Third ward to Win. Buchfinck for a consideration of $1,800. Mr. Stearns expects to move his family to his farm in Myrtle precinct. The Harmony Club enjoyed the hospitality of Mr. and Mrs Honry Waltemath last evening. The evening was devoted to cards, seven tables boing used. Mrs. Julius Pizer and Mr. Tramp succeeded in winning tho greatest number of games and were awarded first prizes. Mrs. Ralph Bix ler and Dr. Cressler were presented with tho emblem of consolation. An excellent lunch was served during the evening which elicited many compli ments. A meeting of business men was held at the Commercial Club rooms last evening for the purpose of con sidering tho free delivery of express shipments. Tho meeting was addressed "at length by Alex Drebert, who had a conference with the railway commis sion on tho subject, and upon motion tho secretary of the Commercial Club was instructed to draw a petition covering the subject, secure tho sig nature of business men and forward It to the commission. Ice cutting on tho Union Pacific lake east of town was completed Sunday, the output being about 600 carloads or 12,000 tons. Tho lake will be placed in readiness for another crop should the weather become sufficiently cold to freeze ice of required thickness. Engineers Will Locate Here. Engineer Stlmson, who will have charge of the construction of tho dou ble track between here and Julesburg, has rented a suite of offices in tho Keith theatre building and expects to take possession February 15th. It is hoped to begin grading for tho double track by the first of March, and under the contract the work is to be com pleted by June 1st. Contracts for grad ing have only been let as far as O'Fal Ion, but it is probable that tho contract from O'Fallon to Julesburg will bo awarded in the near future. Garfield Items. Everett, Smith, of Willard, was in our vicinity Sunday. Mrs. Warren gave birth to twin baby boys Saturday. Tho babies only lived a few hours. The nice weather of the past week is making the snow rapidly disappear and the roads very icy in tho mornings. Mr. McKeg, of Willard, came up to Mr. Joy's aftor a load of oats. . Miss Maud Siver has returned home on account of her mother's illness. Tho people in the Hoy district are holding a literary every Friday night.
