Herman Otten, a resident of North l latto nnd Lincoln county pinco 1869, died suddenly at his home on west Fifth street about 6:30 this momlnrr. Ho aroao as usual and goinp; to the kitchen, built a firo, went to the chicken yard nnd gathered some cjrgs nnd brought in a scuttle of coal. Mrs. Otten nroso shortly thereafter and upon entertaining tho kitchen found Mr, Otten in a chair. She directed n question to him nnd receiving no nn swer walked over to tho .linlr nn.l found him unconscious: a minuto Inter his head dropped forward and then ap parently tho soul took its (light. Dr. AlcLabo was immediately summomcd hut ho found his services worn of no avail. Hormnn Otten wns born in Hanover, Germany, in 1814, and coining to this country when but a young man of eighteen ho enlisted in tho union army of tho civil wan Ho served throurjh out tho war, and continued in tho militnry service, coming to Fort Mc- Pherson, in this county in 1861), and received an honorable discharge at that post. Later ho established tho Star clothing store in this city and al so had stores at Ogallala nnd Sidney. Ho sold his mercantile interests and engaced in the cattlo business, later disposing of his ranch and re-entering the mercantile business. Subsequently he again sold out and bought land in Hinmnn precinct, which ho improved and brought up to a high state of cultivation. About a year ngo lie sold tho farm and had purchased a fruit farm at Nampa, Idaho, to which place ho expected to move this fa'l. In tho death or Mr. Otten the city and county loses a respected citizen, a man whose life had been one of honesty, integrity and kindness; a nmn who was a reader and well posted on current events, and whose opinions were alwnys on tho sido of justice Known as he was throughout the county, his sudden death will bo learned with deep regret by nil. To mourn tho death of this excollent husband and father there arc loft a ife, two sona and three daughters William and Herman, Uossio, Mrs. Mabel Stryker and Alice. At the tliiB writing no arraugmcnt for the funeral had boon made. Tho deceased was a member of the (J. A. II. post and the A. 0. U. W. A Correction. Sixty Masons assembled at tho hall Tuesday evening and hold a tablo lodge complimentary to Rev. John F. Seibert who loaves for Chicago Sunday. Tho lodgo was opened in duo form and then tho members repaired to tho dining hall, whero a bountiful feast had boon pre pared by tho 0. E. S., and to each this was an enjoynblo feature. Following this n number of toasts wcro prepared and responded to, Chas. McDonald of ficiating as toast master. Uricf re marks were mad" by a dozen who had not been asigncd toasts.
