August Arndt of Lilac stopped at Sutherland on his way to North Platte Monday night. A mind reader furnished an hour's excitement on Main street Monday afternoon. Hay balers are complaining that the top of the stacks are badly dam aged and tons ol mouldy hay have to be handled for which no icvcuuc is received. I I'd hard on the balers but worse tor the man who owns the hay. Mrs. Benjamin Young of Madrid visited in town Tuesday. Charles Hayden of Wallace Sun dayed in Sutherland and from there went to North Platte. Frank Cahill aud Frank McFad den of Paxton transacted business in town on Tuesday. Et Thurber has purchased from L. E. Sherwood a tract of fit teen acres half a mile west of the depot aud will at once erect a dwelling thereon. Andrew Eeklund and T. A Rjb erts transacted business at th: county scat on Tuesday, Wiills Record ol Paxton was on our streets Monday and so tar we haven't heard ot his trading horses. Coker Bro9. shipped out about 500 head of western cattle on Sun day that had been Bummercd here. BETWEEN THE RIVERS. W. A. Paxton departed for Oma ha Wednesday night atter a short visit at his ranch in the valley. A. A. Leister, the Hershey black smith, is in a critical condition at this time with kidney trouble. The sugar beet haryest will about close with this week. A large tonnage ia still piled up in the Holds and covered up awaiting or ders tor shipment. Several relatives trom Illinois arc visiting at the Mackiu & Crum my ranch just houth ot Hershey. The Gambrel Laud Co. has taken the cows, about twentv-five in number, from the farm in the valley they purchased ot J. V. Rob. inson to the Longlcy farm. The report is that they will quit the dairy business. Mr. and Mrs, A. B. Goodwin and others from this locality took in the theatre at the county seat Monday evening. Agent J. W, Abbott and wife ot Hershey are now nicely located In the Strickler house in that village. Mcsdamea Win, Eves and J. W. Abbott ot Hershey were county seat visitors Tuesday. The stone for the foundation of J. R. Whlte'anew barn was shipped from Denver. All of the material for the barn waa purchased of W. W. Young at Hershey. Dr. Eves is erecting an addition to the north side ot his residence in Hershey which he will use as an office, The ministerial association, which opened in the M. E. church at Hershey last Tuesday morning, closed Thursday at noon. There were about twenty ministers pres. ent from different parts of the country. The sessions were ail well attended and a deep interest was taken. Mrs. Geo. E, Sullivan of Nichols ia quite ill at the prcHcnt time. Tom Hayes' driving horse, which he purchased of Henry Fulk lately, died trom some unknown cause the other day. Corii husking is in full blast all over the valley at the present time. Three cents per bushel and board is being paid for gathering nnd cribbing jt. Forty cents per bush el on the car is the price paid on the local market. Ware & Co. arc having their store building at Hershey re painted. A painter from North Platte is doing the work. Owing to the shortage of cars in which to ship hav, a Luge tonnage of baled hay is stacked up at the different stations along the hue. Some have q ilt baling on this ac count. J-;V. Vootlry, the Ringer sewing machine dealer of North Platte, took dinner at the new hotel at Hershey Wednesday while uuroute for Sutherland on business. A. W. Arnott told a line team of horses the other day to Miuricc Fowler of North Platte, which he delivered last Thursday. The new hotel ft Hershey started in with five or six steady boarders and is having a good transient tradr, It is conducted in an up-to-date manner. Chas, Toilllon, who has just fi Uhcd gathering corn for this tea son, tells th- writer that he had several acres that went eighty bushels per acre.
