The fun-making by the company waa fast and turious, and the audience was kept in a constant roar of laughter. The Q. T. club was pleasantly entertained Tuesday afternoon by Mrs, C. V. Dedcll. The next .meeting ot the club will occur on All Hallow E'en and the evening wilt be devoted to a pro gram appropriate of the time. Rev. C. F. Svvander has gone to Omaha to attend the International Convention of the Disciples of Christ and in consequence there will be no preaching seryice at the Christian church next Lord' Day. Olmstcad, who recently purchased the Stoddard land west of town, will put in two hundred acres of alfalfa next spring and eighty acres of sugar beets. Mr. Olmstead has been growing and experimenting with sugar beets in Wayne county for several years and is well pleased with the res 1', although he says they cannot be grown as successfully in Wayne county as they can in Lincoln county. We are glad to have men like Mr. Olmstead invest in Lin:oln county land, for it means a more rapid development of the resource? ot the county and we hope he will be able to induce some of his neigh bors in Wayne county to follow his example. O. E. Elder assumed his duties as deputy sheriff yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. Charies Kuhns were up from Maxwell Wednesday evening and attended "McFaddeu'a Row of Flats." Hay shipments during the past few days have been unusually large, both Harrington & Tobin and W. F. McGlone billing several cars each daily. The ladies' "auxiliary of the B. of L. F. will meet next Tuesday after noon iwith Mrs. Reimeycr, who lives in the Goodman house on west Third 6lreet. An item in the State Journal of Wednesday states that the Union Pacific will not recede from its an nounced intention of removing the greater part of its interests from North Platte. Win. Whalen will hereafter act as hay and hog buyer in this city for Seeberger & Co. of Hershey. "Billy" is a hustler and will come close to getting everything he goes after. At a meeting of the Board of Ed ucation this week, a Miss Smith, ot Iowa, who is highly recommended, was elected a teacher to fill the va cancy in the corps caused by the resignation of W. A. Getty. The Board has decided to fit up the northwett room in the basement, and will urc it for the pupils of the Fifth grade taken from the schools in the Second and Third wards. This will to a great extent relieve the congested condition of the room in those ward buildings. The Cttlng up of this room will necessitate hiring an additional teacher, W. J. Fikes spent yesterday in tiwn and left last night, for St. Louis, where he will engage in the confectionery, and cigar business. Mr. Fikes has wanted for several years to quit railroad work and en gage in business and the opportun ity having presented itaelf to do so, he embraced it. The Board of Education has con cluded not to build a coal house for the central building but instead will store the coal in the basement. With part of the money thus saved, the Board will fill up tne rear Dart of the lot and allow the pupils to use it as a piny ground. George Carter and Geo.
