Among the many stories of the tyranny of England toward her colonics in the 16th and 17th cen turies, that of the exile of the Acadians from their homes in the land now known as Nova Scotia, uoids a prominent place. Contented and peace loving, sat isfied to work out their own destinv. the picture of the pastoral life of the Acadians is one beautiful to behold. Then comes the mandate from King George ot England and at once the picture changes to one of desolation. Families arc sep arated, wives torn from husbands and children trom mothers, and left scattered among the English col onics all along the Atlantic coast, where most perished from starva tion and exposure. A few were taken to Louisiana and a few fin ally returned to their native laud after innumerable hardships, and there their descendants may be seen living in much the same man ner of two hundred years ago. Among these the story of Evan geline is a tradition looked upon as sacred and in delineating the char acters and events in a beautiful epic H. W. Longfellow has made the story familiar to all English speaking people and has endeared hiiiiBcll to the hearts of all Amer icans. The production of Evangeline xnd the Exile of the Acadians at the opera houBe Saturday cyening, Oct. 19, will faithfully reproduce all the scenes and charctcrs bo glow ingly described by Longfellow. Evangeline, the belle of the village of Grand Pre, is seen in her home, busy with her spinning wheel, 'fill ing her old father's pipe, comfort ing him in his troubles and later displaying a loyc and faithfulness that finds a parallel ouly in Ruth and Ester ot biblical, fame and one that can but prove a noble example to old and young alike. The en tire cast of over one hundred people will appear in the picturesque cos tume of the Acadians and incident ally will be introduced a butterfly ballet by sixteen young ladies that is worth going miles to see. The cast of characters will be an nounced soon and scatB should be reserved early at Clinton's. Y. K. O. A. MOTXS.
