As the result of three months work by an American Btipcrintcn dent one hundred thousand children arc attending nchools in Cuba. This is one ot the beneficent rcBultB of expansion. It cost Senator Clark, ot Mon tana, one hundred and fifteen thous and dollarB to be elected, and yet he claims all this money waa ex pended in a legitimate manner. It would be Interesting to know the Montana definition of "legitimate." As a result of a rather novel bchcmc, Columbus Ib soon to have a new opera house. Jasper Hoff man, of York, who represents an insurance company, has agreed to build an opera house costing $13,000 providing enough citizens insure in his company to make the premiums aggregate $8,000. Ab there is now only $225 lacking of that sum the new building seems to be nn nssurcd fact. It is to be of brick two stories high and will scat 1500 people. Tin: meeting of ihc populiBt na tional committee at Lincoln this week resulted in a split, an occur rence that waB freely predicted. As a result two national conven tions will be held. The middlc-of-thc-roadera will meet at Cincinnati on May 9th and the fusiouists at Sioux Kails on the same day. The meeting at Lincoln was character ized by high-handed methods on the part of those favoring fusion, and the wishes of the midd.lc-of-thc. roadcrs were not considered to the least extent. It was quite plain frm beginning to end that the one object of the meeting was to turn the reform party over to the Bryan itcs, but to this the middlc-oi-the-roadcrs objected, hence the split. ADDITIONAL LOCAL. Weather forecast: Fair tonight and Saturday; cold wave tonight: high northcrlywindH. Sutherland has become aroused to the necessity of a commercial club to promote the welfare of the village aud the Free Lance haB commenced nn atritatlon for Its organization. The L. O. T. M. entertained the K. O. T'. M. and their families at a Bocial In the K. P. hall last cvcnini. A musical and literary programme was rendered, but tin, principal en tcrtalnmeut of the evening was a drill given by about twenty mem bera of the L. O. T. M. The la dies were very graceful in their inovementH and went tlirougli a va riety of difficult figureH with case and correctnesH. One very pretty movement formed the initials of the order h. O. T, M. Card table? had been provided and a number nf srucntH amused themselves will cards during the evening. About half past ten the ladles invited their crnests to the dining hal where a very excellent lunch wnn waa served. The members of the L. O. T. M. proved themselves to be admirable lioateasca. Silk Crcpous at The Leader. The pupils of the high achool held a George Washington birthday celebration at the court house last evening. Numerous recitations and Bones, all having George Washington for their theme, were rendered and County Attorney Ridgcly delivered an oration on the name subject. Merle Wilcox, one of the mi nil a, also delivered an oration which was exceedingly creditable. The program which had been prepared by the pupils was an excellent one and oil who participated in It did very well but uutortuuatciy lor tuoac who uau crone there to listen a crowd o young men and .half grown boys who were evidently devoid ot al sense of manhood and respect for the rlirhts of others made bo much moIso by hissing and talking that it was almost impossible to nca anything. Such conduct is nn outrage aud vigorous measures ought to be adopted to put a atop to it. 10,000 Old Llvo Pigeons Wnutetl. With his keen inctinct and game judg ment, no animal was too good or high priced for his Pawnee Ranch, and the records of Paddy, 2:ii; Edith Wilks 2:13; Jessie Wilks 2:22; Keith'o Darknight 2:26, and others which were developed, shows that he thoroughly understood the breeding business, Undoubtedly there are many others equally as fast and some faster, if trained and developed, and will be worth ten times the price asked for them now.
