Mrs. Lottie Jones returned Fri day pvening from an extended vi-it with relatives and friends at Belvi dere, Neb. W. J. Shinkle, assisted by three of his hounds, captured a cuyole west of llershey Thursday. Nothwithbtauding the fact that the weather has been rather mild since the snow has covered the ground, it has taken considerable coarse feed for cattle. The pupils and teachers in the old O' Fallon school are enjoying a two weeks' vacation. Contrary to reports, the north llershey school is having the us ual holiday vacation. The epidemic of bad colds and sore throats, which has prevailed in the valley, is abating. Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Feeken re ceived a new daughter at their home Christmas night, a present over which they are very much elated. Mrh. 0. M. Guuuell and daughter of Paxton were the guests of Mrs. Mickelscu at llershey last week. Parties who have been away spending the holidays are return ing home on every train. It is reported that deer are quite plentiful up in the Birdwood coun try this winter. The oyster supper and enter tainment given by home talent in the hall at llershey last evening is reported to have been a very pleas ant affair. Kd Stone of llershey has two fine haymakers' tents for Bale cheap. Onu of them is fourteen feet square and' the other one is 16x35 feet. Mr. and Mrs. W. II. Hill returned last evening from a visit with rela tives at Overton. The section crew at llershey was reduced four men Wednesday, leaving but the foreman and two assistants. B. 0. Thompson has his new. house at Herahcy about completed. J. W. Bergman and family left Thursday evening for their new home in Maxwell. A number of changes among the fartncrB in the valley will take place about March 1st. During B. C. McCord's shooting match on Christmas day some one "swiped" six turkeys while ho waB away from the house. MYRTLEJfEWS. Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Lee of Crab Orchard spent Christmas with their daughter Mrs. J. B. Fuller. Miss Mina Mills has been spend ing her vacation at North Platte. Bert Meuzic came up from North Platte and ate Christinas dinner with his father R. J. Menzic. Mrs. Ezra Keen U out from North Platte visiting relatives. The work of the Sunshine Socie ty was very heavy in December, more than 200 articles having been contributed. These had to be looked over and tagged for the Christinas tree. A box, from II. M. Mould, of Keesville, N, Y brought joy to tho little Sunshine girls, as it contained thirteen nice dolls, A box of 100 pounds was sent from central office. The money in the treasury, $8.79, was spent in buying treats for the tree. Ed Wright, J. B. Fuller, Miss Gussie Uotton of Gaudy and Mrs. R. Hogeboom of Dorp were enrolled as new. members. An extra copy of "In His Steps" has been received and any one wishing it can have it by addressing Mrs. A. B. Moore, Myrtle, Neb. Over one hundred people crowded into Pleasant Valley school house to hear the Christinas exercises and bcc tree given by the Myrtle Sunsliiuers. Bvery one went home well pleased, especially the chil dren with the gifts Santa Claus left. Miss Simpson is spending her vacation in North Platte. John McNicol came out from North Platte to spend his vacation at home. Mr. and Mrs. Fuller and Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Moore spent a very pleasant evening at the home of Mr. Lamb at Nesbit one evening last week in the interest of the Sunshine Society. The Nesbitt people gave Brother Marks an overcoat on the Christ mas tree, which pleased him very much. Mr. and Mrs. D. Schrambling very pleasantly entertained the young people of this vicinity last Thursday evening. Peter McNichol of Lincoln is vis iting under the parental roof dur ing the holidays. Mrs. A. G Smith of Cheyenne is circulating among old acquaint ances, O. W. Neale and wife have been visiting at the home of V. Combs. John Combs was transacting TWO LIVES. McMichacl justices of the peace. Adjourned until tomorrow. A wreck occurred in the Union Pacific- yards at Columbus Satur day morning. Train No. 2o ran into the rear of an extra freight standing on the main line. The engine and four cars were badly wrecked. The fireman saved his life by jumping but. the engineer was pinned in the cab but found to be uninjured when extricated. C, J. Grosp, a horseman from Pine Blulf, Wyo., who waB riding in the caboose of the extra, was instantly killed. Nine horscH out of a car load were also killed, It is said that the accident was'due to a dense cloud of escaping Bteain from the round house which obscured the Inil light u'f the bxtra. Postmaster Hill and Express Agent McGovern are both feeling extremely thankful that the holi days have ended because their la botB in behalf of Santa Claus have been much more arduous than in any previous year.
