Newhall and family wDl remove this week to their farm near Scotia, Neb. Mrs. Chas. Price, formerly of this city, is now holding a positiou in the Omaha postoffice. The Tuesday Afternoon Club held its bi-weekly meeting at the Baldwin residence this afternoon. Dr. Wm. Eves and Dr. Voor hees Lucas are applicants for the position of railroad physician at this place. J. C. Bock, of Council Bluffs, accompanied home last night lis son-in-law J. E. Bush, and will re main in town for a week or ten days. Mr Bock is the owner of a large vinyard and during the sea son ships tons of grapes to North Platte. In the district court yesterday the case oi Grove S. Hall against John A. Hayes was on trial before a jurj'. Hayes was a justice of the peace at Brady and in a petty case before him some time ago he, it was alleged, charged twenty cents more fees than he was entitled to accord ing to law. An action was brought against Hayes by Hall with a view ot "sinching" the justice for the $50 imposed by the statutes. The jury gave a verdict for the defendant. This petty case cost the county over a hundred dollars. Dr. Lucas was called to Logan county this morning on professional business. The ladies' guild will meet Friday afternoon with Mrs. M. Doplittle. E. B. Warner will erect a build ing on his residence lots in which to store surplus furniture, Train No. 2 this morning en countered quite a blizzard between Cheyenne and Lodge Pole. Miss Maud Hinman will enter tain a large party of her friends this evening at a masquerade party at Keith's hall. It is said that an anti-saloon league will soon be organized in North Platte. Nearly all the larger towns of the state have such a league. G. M. Day has accepted a posi in the Hub grocery store. The pro prietors are to be congratulated upon having secured the services of such an efficient clerk. In the district court last even ing Charles Lawrence plead guilty of assault on J. C. Valentine Day was observed in several rooms of the city schools yesterday afternoon by the ex change of missives between pupils. The Epworth League will give a social Friday ev'g, Feb, 18, at the First Nat. Bank Hall to which the members of the different young peoples' christian societies are in vited. Some time ago the county com missioners attached a time-lock safe from G. D. Matthewson; of Brady, for back taxes, but when the sheriff went to take possession of the sate they found that the time lock had been removed. In this condition the safe "was practically valueless, so yesterday the commis sioners closed a deal with Matthew son whereby the latter for tlie sum of one hundred dollars agrees to de liver the lock. M. C. Keith went to Omaha this morning. Mrs. Spafford has been quite sick tlie past week. Mr. and Mrs. Millard Hostler left this morning for a visit with friends at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. r The county commissioners con vened in session yesterday and de voted the day to the transaction of minor business, The case of Guy Pitts against C. I. Hill occupied the attention of the district court this forenoon. This is an action taken from the county court on appeal and in volves the possession of some land north-east of town. The dime social given on Fri day evening by the ladies' auxiliary to the B. of I4. B. at ttfe. First Na tional bank hall was attended by a crowd which filled the room. A lit erary and musical programme was given, oard games were played and refreshments served. The evening resulted very pleasantly to all. j John Hinman expects to ex tend his Birdwood ditch this spring, so that it will water several hundred additional acres. A. J. Goodman, who has been iu Denver for, several weeks receiv insr treatment, returned home last night. It is understood that his condition is considerably better than it was when he left here. Aaron Mills died at the home of his son William in Nowell pre cinct last Friday night after a somewhat protracted illness. The deceased was well advanced in age and had lived in the county for a number of years. The case of Lincoln county against ex-treasurer JohnH. Clark, was tried, before a jury in the dis trict court the latter part of last week and resulted in a verdict for the defendant. This was a case brought to recover alleged interest on money deposited in the banks during the incutubcncj'of Mr. Clark as county treasurer. The county employed A. D. Orr, at the cost of two or three hundred dollars, to compute the amount of interest money alleged to be due the coun ty,and his testimony was admitted, but in his charge to the jury Judge Norris said the testimony ot Orr should not be considered; that the county was entitled to interest only on those funds which the county commissionersdisbursed the coun ty funds proper. 9 SHOES... Crusen lett Saturday for Ord, where he will assist Rev. Hardaway in a series of revival ser vices. Mr. Crusen will probably be absent about two weeks. The attendance at the Salva tion army barracks is often greater than the seating capacity of the room. The army people are more than pleased with their reception in North Platte. Miss Lillian Pike sroes to Lex ington where she will give an en tertainment next Friday evening under the auspices of the Epworth League. The North Platte members of the W. R, C who went to Norfolk last week expected to exemplify the work for the benefit of the en campment, but owing to the fact that every hall in that town was engaged for the meetings, they did not have an apportunity to do the work. The work of the order was, however, exemplified at Columbus, and the Times of that place has the following to say: Several members of the W. R. C. Dept. of Nebraska, who have been in at tendance at the Fifteenth Annual convention at Norfolk, passed Fri day afternoon between trains very pleasantly by holding reception ra the commodious parlors of the Meridian hotel, kindly placed at their disposal by the gentlemanly proprietor. One very interesting feature of the reception was the new flag work, which has become a part of the regular floor work of the, order, as exemplified by the members of Stephen A. Douglas Corps ot North Platte of whom there were eleven members present. Fourteen corps were represen ted. It would be utterly impossible to fuftiess and imoressiveness of the work without seeing it. The Knights of Pythias will hold a reception and card party at the hall next Friday evening. ' J. E. 'Bush was called to "Coun cil Bluffs Saturday night by receipt of news that his mother had fell' and broken an arm. "At the encampment of the Ladies of the G. A, R. at Norfolk' last week. Miss W. E. Hesse, of this city, was elected vice-president, of the order. Judge Grimes returned from. Beaver City Friday night and is'' this week presiding on the .district court bench. Judge Norris returned to his home Saturday. On Friday evening next the Gordon Cornet band will give their concert and dance.
