Lester Eells received a tele gram from Council Bluffs this morning requesting he and Mrs. Eells to leave for there at once, which is supposed to mean that Mrs. Graves is in a very critical condition. This office is in receipt of a letter from M. C. Harrington, dated at New Orleans May 18th, in which he says he is having a most delightful trip. He pronounces New Orleans the most beautiful city of the southland. The Picayune publishes a column interview with Mr. Harrington, extracts of which will be published in a future issue of this paper. Those who failed to attend "For Fair "Virfnniri" nf- flip nnpm - - 0 1 house last evening missed one of the best plays witnessed here for several years. Mr. and Mrs. Whytal are certainly excellent in their respective roles, and they carry with them a first-class com pany. The play is a strong one, giving ample scope for the mem bers of the company to display their abilities. The attendance last night was not very large not as large as the merits of the play and players demanded. It is un- fortunate that many of the best companies which visit North Platte are attended by smaller audiences than those which greet inferior companies. Western Washers $3 at the Wilcox Dept. Store. The recent decision in the Bell telephone case was not as far reach ing as first reported by the daily papers, and the North Platte tele phone company feels warranted in going ahead with the project. The work of putting up the line is practically completed, and in a few days instruments will be placed in business houses and residences. The expectation is to have the en tire line in working order by June 1st. Up to yesterday thirty-nine subscribers had been secured, and these without any particular solici tation upon the part of the promo ters. The rent of residence phones has been placed atS1.50 per month, and at this very low rate it is quite likely the instruments will be largely used by citizens. A measurement of the dis charge of water in the North Platte river, made by Chas. P. Ross the early part of the week, developed 13.345 cubic feet per second. This action has been taken so that the races can be more thoroughly advertised and thus be the means of securing a larger attendance.
