Crayon Portraits of yourself or any friend you may select.
SIOO.OO BEWAED
We will give 100 to any charitable institution in North Platte on
sufficient proof that the portraits we give away are not made with gen
uine crayons or that they are not equal in every respect in artistic merit
and execution to any $15 crayon made. We challenge comparison as to
the perfection of these portraits in likeness to the photograph from
which they are made. We invite a comparison with the best crayons
made by the best of artists. "A thing ofbeauty is a joy forever".
What could be nicer for home adornment than one of those elegant
crayons? See sample in the window. We have also made arrange
ments with a large frame manufactory to mount and frame these por
traits for our patrons in the best style at one-fourth the usual cost of
such frames. You can have either gilt or bronze frame with first-cl:iss

done.as a big advertisement. No other such inducement can or will be
offered by any otlier house in' this city. Strike while the iron is hot

FECT FITTING SHOE MADE. It fits on the foot like a glove on
the hand. It is not cumbersome like the button shoe that has four or
five thicknesses of leather over the instep, but thb shoe has but one
thickness and presents a seamless, glove-fitting front, comfortable to the
foot and pleasing to the eye.
This shoe differs materially from the "old side lace." That had from
18 to 24 eyelets, double cord, and pulled on sideways, while this shoe has
but eight eyelets, pulls on straight and is held in place by a low gore,
inserted on each side of the shoe, which is covered and protected by the
top, and is adjusted to the ankle by lacing on the inside, giving to the
foot a very slim and small appearing form. This shoe cannot break in
the back, and neither are you inconvenienced by constantly re-sewing
buttons or repairing button holes. This shoe is being placed in all good
towns, and its success and popularity are assured. We feel confident if
you will try a pair of these shoes you will not be satisfied with any others.
Would" be pleased to have you call and make a personal inspection
of this shoe and think it will interest you.

President Harrison has transmit

treaty with England, refered to in
his message, negotiated by Secre
tary Blaine and Sir Julian Paun
cefort, the British raiuister. By its
tprms the number of 'extraditable
offenses is largely increased, the
most important addition being that
of embezzlement, so if the treaty be
ratified Canada and the United
States will cease to exchange a
class of undesirable residents who
have hitherto secured immunity

Nine states have chosen for Re

native-born citizens. Only the
older and smaller commonwealths,
of course, can show such a record,
and the list is that of the thirteen
original, with Massachusetts, Con

Pennsylvania and Georgia taken

added. Thus Maine sends six, New
Hampshire four, .Rhode Island four,
Delaware three, Maryland eight,
Virginia twelve, West Virginia
six, North Carolina eleven, and
South Carolina nine all native

Consumption is on the Increase.
From recent statistics it appears that Con
sumption is on the increase throughout the wes
tern states. The principal cause, it is stated,
is due to neglect of common coughs and colds.
It is the duty of all persons, whether of delicate
or robust health to have a remedy at hand at all
times in readiness, and a coueh or cold mar be
broken up before it becomes seated- BAL

This immigration bnsiness will
soon cease being a bugaboo to our
people. The tide is rapidly turning
toward the temperate regions of
South America, In the Argentine
Republic alone oyer 1,000 immi

The number coming to the United
States is not over 1,500 daily: The
probabilities are that this number
will steadily decrease until our an
nual accretion from this source will
not amount to more than a quarter
of a million. Our country can dis
pose of that number without feel
ing the presence of any "foreign
element." Journal.

The new badge of the American
Federation of Labor is a disk of
copper - or gold, half an inch in
diameter, enamelled to represent a
hemisphere, as, shown in maps of
the world, in blue or black, but
marked by only eight meridians in
gilt. These are indicative of the
demand of the Federation of Labor
for a work day of eight hours.
Above the disk is a scroll with the
letters A. F. of L. underneath is
a pendant inscribed "Labor Omnia

word "Improbus from the quota

pole is a figure "8" and at the
south pole is the word "hours."

The Republic of Brazil starts out
with one very poor r;lic of the

rows of buttons the size of after

dream of loveliness. The . proud

of a coachman. But why bow you

box-coatee, as one that beareth the

chew a straw and be' done with it,
for only grooms do that. It is the

It is novpretty well settled that

clamoring for a removal. It will
pay the state to make the change
because the old buildings, having
been in use over seventy years, are
worn out.- and must be replaced by

that in a very few years the famous

The first railway constructed in
America was built in 1825-6 from
Quincy, Mass., to the nearest tide
water and was used for transport
ing granite from the quarries. It
was four miles long and cost 50,
000 a small begining in railway
traffic which in sixty odd years
reaches maturity in the Union Pa
cific Railway with its thousands of
miles of track and superb dining
car service through from Omaha to
Denver or Portland.
The California railroad commis
sion has received a complaint from
a traveling man who was clearly
discriminated against by the South
ern Pacific. The rules allow 150
pounds of free baggage. The
traveller had more, and rather than
pay the excess charges bought a
second ticket. The road refused to
allow the baggage to be checked on
both tickets, claiming that the
"passenger is entitled to the free
baggage and not his ticket." This
is a remarkable claim, and one that
will certainly have but little weight
with the commissioner.
