There Will Be a Gift and Treat for Each Child
i4; Especial Invitation is Issued to the Children
of Box Butte County Farmers and Ranchmen,
ALLIANCE will hold open house on the afternoon of Christ
mas day, when, at 5 o'clock, at the corner of Third and Box
Butte, there will be a Community Christmas celebration to
which the entire county has been invited. It will be the first
celebration of this kind that has been held in the city, and the
city officials, headed by City Manager Kemmish, as well as every
business man in the city, are putting forth every effort to make
it a success.
The Community Christmas tree and program will hold some
thing of interest for every person who attends. For the older
people there will be a special program consisting of Christmas
carols and other music, a brief talk or two and the pleasure of
watching the children. The children will take delight in the tree,
the songs and the visit from Santa Claus himself, who has prom
ised to be present and have a gift for every child of school age
who is there when he arrives.
The Thiele Drug company will furnish free Christmas cards
for the kiddies, upon which they will write their names. These
cards will be presented to Santa Claus at the tree as the closing
number of the public program, and will show that the holder is
eligible to receive a gift. Should children living in the country
or city be unable to come to Alliance or secure cards before Christ
mas day, Santa Claus will remember them if an older person is
present to identify them. .
The entire city is co-operating to make this public celebration
the biggest event of its kind ever staged in Western Nebraska.
The committee in charge consists of C. M. Looney, general chair
man; S. VV. Thompson, Mrs. S. II. Cole, Mr. and Mrs. N. A. Kem-'
mish and Mrs, Charles Fuller. This committee, assisted by H. E.
Gantz and P. E. Romig, canvassed the business district Monday as
aides to Santa Claus and secured the promise of sufficient Christ
mas remembrances to care for at least two thousand children.
The general committee will collect the gifts, and a special Elks
committee will classify them for distribution. The Alliance Camp
fire Girls will have charge of making popcorn balls. Lloyd C.
Thomas has been appointed as official Santa Claus, and will ap
point his own assistants. Mrs. Inice Dunning is -training the
children of the Alliance public schools in the singing of Christ
mas carols. ...
Children from the country will be asked to come to the tree
first, and then Alliance children will be called forward. Air school
children from outside of Alliance and all school children up to those
of high school age living in this city are eligible to receive gifts
and will be remembered if they are present at the celebration.
The committee has extended a general invitation to every person
in the county to be present at the festivities and to enjoy the
program. Should the weather be . unsuitable, the program and
gift distribution will be held indoors.
