AMERICAN LFXSION NOTES. aMaaaaa Recent reporU from th member ship drive Indicate that Nebraska Is "some state' when It comes to drives. The most optimistic of. Ne braska Legionaries had not expected that our home stale would come In second. New Hampshire, getting first place, was not the only New England state to make a good record, how ever, as Massachusetts was third and Connecticut was not far down the line. Connecticut led the entire United States the first two days but could not keep np the pace. Six Texas posts obtained 1,200 members the first day of the drive. Many posts went over the top In their membership campaign largely through the efforts of the members of their Women's Auxiliary. ' We need an auxiliary here in Alliance, but we want, a place to hold our meetings first. . ' . The drop In the price of eggs brings forward the great American hen as an example of patriotic promptness in responding' to the call for production. It Is the purpose of the American Legion to, keep out of politics, but from time to time -articles', already published In the dally papers are re printed, for the benefit of some ex service men who may have overlook ed these articles In the dailies, Speaking on the Legion's plan to as sist former service men through government aid In securing vocation al training, loans for the purchase of lamia, bOntes, etc., Senator Sherman of Illinois says: 'II the Anierlcan Le gion is Inspired by no greater desire than to loot the American treasury, It ia an unworthy organization." The Senator from Illinois goes on to say that for twenty years he has refused to let the officials of the American Federation of Labor dictate to him and that he will not now permit the American Legion to do so, , A saa'pfnC.'800 post wltn a mem bership of 450 isoviUing a fund to care for its members" aT thfIr fm M?a In case of sickness or au .",r6lt Many men were Impaired in healtu by reason of their service In the army or navy and' are "up against it".
