Really, the wonder is that preparations to put such an industry in the field were not begun long, long ago; for, now that the possibilities of a packing plant and the accompanying commer cial yards have been revealed, it does sot take a cattleman long to nee at a glance that It is bound to bo a profit able venture profitable to everyone concerned, including the stockhold ers, the producers of cattle, nogs ana sheep, and to this entire section of. Nebraska generally. There can be little .If any doubt. .... . i t. hi i. p that tnis inau9iry, wnicn win u of the largeBt in this part of the state to begin with, will not be long in growing into one of the most impor tant nl Nebraska as a whole. Alliance is so favorably located ReoRraphlcally, and as to railroad facilities, that a packing plant aud commercial yards her woeuld be ad vantageously placed even if there were no Immediately loca Uerrltory from which to draw; and when it is remembered that, in addition to this favorable location, there is a rich field from which to draw, for many miles around, everyone approached is willing to admit that every rule of business logic points to Immediate success, i One of the things that impresses the people of Western Nebraska that the Alliance Packing Company will begin its existence with brilliant prospects is the undoubted fact that It will be managed from its incep tion by practical men not merely promoters, but packing house men who know their own business Just as capably and unmistakably as do genuine experts In any other line of endeavor. Mr. It. E. Plumbe, who heads the efforts. Is a gentleman with several year intensive experience In this work. Eight years of his time was spent in responsible positions with Wilson & Co.. both before aad since that gigantic industry changed to its present ownership. The Cosauaunlty Club took the precaution to wire Wilson ft Co.. asking how long Mr. Plumbe had been in the employ of that corporation, and aa to the calibre of his services. A reporter for The Herald saw the telegram which came In reply from Wilson & Co., and which said tout Mr. Plumbe's employment had lasted from July, 1902. to December, 110; that his record was clear and his services entirely satisfactory. It will be recalled that the board of directors of the Alliance Commun ity Club, after having gone carefully Into the matter, several days ago en dorsed the proposition aa set forth by Mr. Plumbe and Mr. D. P. Sweet. With the opportunity here, the field waiting to be exploited, and the right men handling the affairs of the Alliance Packing Co. right from the Jump, The Herald Is among those who fele considerable genuine en thusiasm as to what the result will be. The Alliance members of the Mys tic Shrine, at a noon-day meeting ! held at the Alliance Hotel, yesterday, ; made preliminary arrangements fori the enmaase of the ceremonial to be held at Grand Island, September 2 2d. At this time It is expected that at least eight hundred members of the Shrine over the state will assemble for a big meeting. It is the plan of the local members to make the trip in a special car and to go prepared for the big time that will be in store for them. MF.KIOUM SHOOTING AT ALLEN.
