Num- j erous instances were reported where , .the tramps virtually ran the train,' being strong enough numerically to i enfroce their demand that they be j allowed to ride, and many hand to i thand conflicts were reported between ; Adelaide trainmen and tramps, resulting often in severe and fata) injuries. This year, so far as the tramp problem is concerned, the trainmen are having an easy time. Gurley went to Sheridan on No. 41 Sunday morning for a visit with his mother and bro ther at that point. He went through Alliance on No. 42 Tuesday for Cres ton, Iowa. Mrs. Gurley is at the present time at Creston and she will join him and they will visit in Kan sas City and other points. Bullock of Alliance went to Deadwood Thursday where he will take a position as brakeman. H. E. Tiller went to An tioch Monday where he will take the position of second trick operator. Antioch has now been made a two man. office on account of the increase in business at that point. R. V. Cox, who is now agent at Custer, will return to Alliance about June 15, where he will take a posi tion as night chief dispatcher per manently, vice M. E. Coleman being transferred to Casper division as chief dispatcher. This will relieve George Eckhardt, who has been act ing as night chief dispatcher tem porarily and he will go back on his regular trick, relieving extra Dis patcher Biggerstaff. Ross attended the Masonic celebration at Deadwood Saturday and Sunday. Machinist H. O. Swanson returned Tuesday from a five-months stay at Clay Center, Kans. Rumor has it that Brakeman Har ry Sitzman, formerly of this place, has joined the C. S. navy. Machinist Frank Wiedenfeld and wife visited Miss Helen Wiedenfeld , at Deadwood on Wednesday and Thursday. Switchman Hubext Haven is suf fetini from a sprained ankle as the i result of alighting from a car upon aj niece of iron in such a way as toi badly turn his ankle. Engineer Charley Hagerman. wife and children, of Ravenna, arrived Monday for a visit at "the home of Mrs. Hagerman's parents, Mr. anil Mrs. H H. Wheeler. E. Austin and wife have been vls- j iting at the home of his parents, Mr. j and Mrs. W. L. Austin, this week. Ed expects to enter the government service as a machinist soon. I Henry Harmon has resigned as 'clerk and delivery boy at the M. R. j Carroll store and entered the service as a brakeman and switchman. Frank Thornton will drive the Car roll delivery wagon. The carpenter work on the com pany's new eating house northeast of the roundhouse Is about completed and water and lights will be installed at once. This fall the company alar- expects to Install steam heat. Master Mechanic J. G. Dole came up from Alliance Friday going to Deadwood Saturday and returning here Sunday where he remained sev eral days supervising the construc tion of the company's new eating house.
