18 JUNE, 1916 1915 a Record Breaker Omaha l!v Ntork Market Marie New lUword In 1910, With 1Wm t of Passing It Tills Year. A Year of ltecords The year 1916 vai a year of records In the receipts of live stock nt South Omaha. When the range shipping season had gotten well under way, receipts of the various rlassos of slock mounted up Into the bin figures, and on October 11th, 115, 19,747 head of cattle were re ceived, and on the same date the to tal carloads of live stock foot up 953 carB. This was the largest day's bus iness ever handled at the South Oma ha yards. AIho, during the seven days ending October 16, 1915, cattle re ceipts total 52,421 head, and total cars of live stock 2,810 cars, also be ing the greatest number of cars of stock and head of cattle received In any one week. Receipts for the year show a total of 1,218,342 head of cattle, breaking all previous records with the excep tion of the year 1910, when 1,223. 533 head were receivsd. Sheep receipts were the grep.test In the history of the yards, 3,268,279 head having been received as com pared with the previous record re ceipts of 3,222,132 head during the year 1913. The total hog receipts foot up 2, 642,973 head, which was only ex ceeded once before at South Omaha. Total carloads of live stock receiv ed were the largest for one year since the organization of the Yards, 101, 786 cars being unloaded and yarded. This enormous number being nearest approached in 1911, when 94,313 curs were received. As to total num ber of head of all clasncB of live stock received at South Omaha, the year 1915 has ben the ban.ier year, 7, 171,273 .head of cattle, hogs, sheep and horses having been-received. Not only have these various rec ords been made, but South Omaha shows a marked increase In .receipts for the year 1915, m compared with the year 1914, as shown by a glance over th-o following table: Cattle Hogs 1915 1.218,342 2.642,973 1914 938.817 2.258.620 Increase 279.525 . 384.353 Per cent Increase 29 8 17 During the year 1915 the South Omaha Yards. were practically the only large market which showed ma terial increases in all classes of live stock over 1914, and these large re ceipts brought about a greet many Improvements and Determents in the handling facilities in practically all departments, the better to care for the stock. South Omaha has, for a number of years past, gained the distinction of furnishing cattle feeders with the fin est class of feeding cattle obtainable, and this fact has become so thor oughly established that the output of stock cattle and feeding steers during the year 1915 was the largest in the history of the yards, 475,179 head having been shipped to the feed lots of Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri and South Dakota, as well as to other Mates farther distant. Nebraska, alone, took 223,757 head of feeding cattle, 171,624 head going Into the Iowa feed lots. Illinois took 6.000 head more than during 1914. One of the remarkable features of the season was the big demand for stock cattle from the west, the range country. Wyoming look 6.000 and South Dakota 5,000 more heed than during 1914. It was South Omaha's biggest year in stockers and feeders and the distribution of the stock demonstrates the steadily growing popularity of this market and the big Increase in tributary territory. Sheep 3,268,279 3.113.889 154,390 4.9 Horses 41.679 30.688 10.991 35.8 Total Carloads 101,786 83.139 18,647 22.4 A notable feature during 1915 was the great number of eastern feeders who had been accustomed to get j their stock cattle from Chicago, who I were forced to come to the Missuri , river for supplies this year. I As a feeder and range sheep mar-' ket, South Omaha again led the field, in fact, the closing of the Chicago market to the feeder trade made t hip point stand out more prominently than ever before as a feeder market, and Omaha did not fall so very far short of ranking as the largest sheep and lamb market in the country. Feeder shipments showed quite a bit more volume In 1915 than in the previous year, total shipments reach ing 1,066,54 2 head. Iowa, unham pered by quarantine, took the posi tion at the bead of the list, and ship ments to New York ranked far ahead of any previous year, while many other states showed big increases as ' compared with 1914. In total fig urea, feeders shipments during 1915 show an increase of over 100.000 head as compared with the year 1914 with a far greater territory In which the distribution was made than in previous years. The cattle division is steadily be ing enlarged, six entirely new blocks or pens, all concrete paved, having been added to this department dur ing the year. This feature alone en tailed the expenditure of over 75. 000.00. Not only was the matter' of more cattle pens taken Into consider ation in the general construction work during 1915 but two modern, type registering, cattle scales added in this division, at a cost of over $6. 000.00, making the securing of weights on cattle, after sale has been made a matter of but a few minutes, and also securing for shippers the greatest benefit in the way of "FILL" from all feed used while in the yards. Another feature that adds greatly to ihe comfort and convenience of the shippers who wish to visit the yards and watch the procedure of the sale of their cattle, has been tlie in stallation of a complete overhead walk covering all sections of the cat tle division. Shippers may now go thruout the entire cattle department with the utmost ease, comfort and safety, up out of the way of excited and unruly cattle. While this item alone caused a considerable expendi ture, it was deemed necessary to wards keeping the cattle alleys clear of pedestrians and at the same time give stock shippers an easy mode of travel, through this division. Phona South 1876 "South Omaha has gained recognition throughout the nation as the Live Stock Market that produces results for the shipper. It's success has been based on satisfactory service; go wherever you will in the middle west among breeders and shippers who make a study of the live stock conditions and you will find an ever-increasing sentiment in favor of the Omaha market. There's a reason for this growing popularity and it lies in the enterprising activity of commission dealers of the type of BRYSON BROS., men who have for years been intimately associated with the industry, daily striving to build up and better conditions, simplifying selling methods and pave the way for greater legitimate profits to the farmer and shipper whose efforts have raised and fat tened the stock." When we entered the Live Stock commission business at the Omaha mar ket, we did so after having made the Live Stock industry a life study. We believe that honesty and energy, coupled with good judgment and experience, are necessary qualifications for success in any line. From a standpoint of dol lars and cents paid to the commission men for handling a shipment, it makes but little difference as these charges are fixed by the Live Stock Exchange, but when the matter of prompt returns, securing good prices and sharing improved service's is concerned, the shipments handled by us are looked after, and our shippers' interests protected, as carefully as if the stock belonged to Xewt and Tom. Our location in the cattle yards is very convenient to the scab s, ,ind while our business during the past year has shown an increase of seventy-live per cent over the preceding year, it is not so great but that we cive per sonal attention to each shipment. Write us about your stock and we will be pleased to furnish you with any market information you may desire. iiuiiuimuiwtMiiiiiiiiniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiKiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiir.M!iiiiiiiiiii t V Y f Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y t Y Y Y Y Y Y Y t Y Y Y v t Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y : .
