Miss Joyce lllnton- began working at J. C. Skipper's, Monday. Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Billow came in Monday from Hale, Mo., to visit with L. E. Hubbard and family. MIbs Lillian Smlier went to Hy annls Sunday and began working at the Commercial. The Maccabee lodge gave a dance in the Hubbard new store building Saturday night A good crowd at tended, and a good time Is reported by all. L. E. Hubbard and M. D. Billow went to Ellsworth and Bingham to look for a car of potatoes. O. L. Cramer came up from Mul len to visit with his brother out south of town. Monday about 10 a. m., fire broke out In the Wolfe & Dunn livery and feed barn, and before any one could get there and get out the horses the fire had made such headway that It was Impossible to sav all the horses. It was a great fight by our bucket brigade to save the J. E. Renfro and Hubbard Mercantile store buildings. The origin of the fire is unknown. Ralph Remour lost four head of horses, and Fred Engle lost a new bridle, saddle and chaps. Fred Engle went to Omaha Sunday with cattle. Mrs. S. A. Crouse who has a home stead out south of town died Tues day morning. Mrs. Crouse had been r ly for the past year. ... Maupln and Hervey Hubbard attended the dance In Hyannis Fri day night. There is one Alliance man who is doing some fancy skating and some cute tricks on thin ice and he thinks he is fooling his wife, but the neigh bors say she Is Just keeping quiet and waiting for him to drop through an ice hole. t When a man walks In the straight and narrow path there Is always plenty of elbow room.
