Box Butte County Farm Management Association F. M. S:idell, Demonstrator Office In Court Haute. riionr 2U. FAIV.MKIW KXCANUE It U the desire of tho Farm Man agement Association to establish a farmers' exchange. In the eight count let having demonstration work In progress, the offices of the associ ations have been used aa a medium of exchange to the extent of $41,141 worth of farm products. This has been In the sale of live stock both within the rountf and without the county, and also la the sale and purchasing of farm seed. An unusual crop of alfalfa seed was raised In Seward county in the season of 1013. The local demand could not take care of this seed and the local price was very low. The farm demonstrator In communica tion with other county agents of eastern states succeeded in finding a market for $13,840 worth of alfalfa seed to farmers of eastern states at a , price approximately $1 per bushel more than the local price. The pro fit to the Seward county farmers In this one item above was more than $1,000. Any member that has good, clear seed of any kind, hay, feed, breeding and work animals of all kinds that they want to sell strictly on the mer its of such, and those who want to buy any of the above, are asked to send their wants to the farm demon strator's office. Whenever possible, please state price, quality and quan tity. Any one wishing to work on a farm or anyone desiring a farm hand send In your wants. A list will be kept so that anyone desiring to look over the Items can do so by coming to the farm demonstrator's office In the court house. NEED POTATOES ' "Northern grown vs. home grown seed potatoes." Potato growers have for many years recognised the value of good clean, northern grown seed potatoes. As it is true of Tex as potato growers coming to this county for northern grown seed, the growers here must go nortn to Im prove their seed. The hot dry i-.eu-sons of the past few years soon tell on the vitality of our seed pota toes. If we will continue to look to a southern market to dispose of the potatoes for seed, we also must Im prove our seed. In OHge county tblrty-two farmers co-operated In demonstrating the value of northern vs. home grown seed potatoes. Due to lack of time, the county agent whs unable to get the results from all of the co-operators, but the following is an accurate report of nine of them. These re sults certainly show that it pays to plant good, northern seed. Had the rainfall been normal the past season, the northern seed would have made a much better showing against the home grown than It did. The pota toes from the northern seed were much larger, smoother and of a bet ter eating quality. There was more difference In quality than yield. Comparing northern grown seed vs. home grown seed shows the fol lowing results, all based on acre yields: Av. Yield per Acre Northern grown seed ...105.34 bu. Home grown seed 79.16 bu. Difference In favor of northern grown seed, 26.18 bu. Dawes county, thru Mr. Hawk, the farm demonstrator, will ship In a car of northern grown seed. Any one who desires to plant northern grown seed potatoes will do the Farm Management Association ft favor if they will co-operate with the demon strator in this work. Act at once so that arrangements can be made to secure the seed n quantity. Yours for service nd co-operation, F. M. SEIDELL. Agent U. S. FINE SPECIMEN MEMORIAL ART Kerr Monument at HanUngn, State's Most Notable Example In Bronze and Uranlte There has been erected in Park view cemetery t Hastings, Nebras ka, what the newspapers of that city claim is the finest and most expens ive specimen of memorial art in the state. It consists of a monument of Balfour pink granite, quarried in North Carolina, the base of which is 12 by 5V4 feet, and a bronze fig ure in an alcove of the monument, depicting Sorrow. The Hastings Dally Tribune of December 12 gives a complete description of this work of art, which we cannot spare space In this issue of The Herald to repro duce In full, but a photogravure of It la printed in the advertisement of Kimball Brothers, a reference to which will give a slight Jdea of Its beauty. The statue and the granite monu ment In which It reposes represent the highest artistic ability and re fleet great credit upon the talented designer, Fred L. Kimball of Lin coln, a sculptor of whom the state may well be proud.
