Secured the co-operation of seven- Ay auto owners who now fly the Al liance pennant. Raised 16.800 for Commercial 4?lb work. Increased the membership from ajerenty-four to three hundred and Held the Urst "seeing Alliance" trip ever held In western Nebraska. Issued twenty thousand pamphlets advertising Alliance and Box Butte enty. Secured favorable action on the aVtferal building. Financed the Stockmen's Conven Man, it being the most successful convention ever held In the stale. Held a profitable two days clean up campaign: Circulated a petition asking the lty council to take a census of out lty in order that the government ronld not hold buck the appropria ton for the federal building. Held a three days booster trip in which over one hundred autoa and 20 people took part. Held the first Bllo trip ever held in ur county, seventy-two people golnp en this trip, and as a result, sven Months later, eleven new Kilos have been built. Placed an agricultural exhibit at the Burlington depot at Alliance anl lo Chicago, it being the first exhib it of its kind advertising our coun try. Boosted the Chautauqua and help ed with the advertising. Secured the State Sheriff's conven lion, it being their first convention lO our city. Reorganized the Retailers Assoc! atlon. Asked the city council to establish urb districts In our city and the ame were established. Held during the year six banquets with an average attendance of 143 and 14 special noon day dinners with an average attendance of 26. Held 7 regular meetings at the FOR TIRED "Til" SORE. Anderson from the State Agrl- ultural College here to explain the; Farm Demonstrator movement In. Nebraska. I raid all the expenses of the Dec oration Day exercises. Circulated a petition asking the i council to Install a 500,000 gallon; reservoir and same has been acted pon favorably. Induced the telephone company to publish the street address of their subscribers In their telephone dir ectory. Invited nine conventions to meet in our city and sent out 1,030 piece of literature concerning Alllanee in the interest of this work. Opened a free employment bureau nd found employment for 133 men nd 16 women. We have designated the live ones from the dead onea by the commer cial club membership sign which you will find in every establishment that belongs to the club. Boost for them for they are boosting for Alliance in the right way. Induced the city to have Box Butte venue and main aide streets clean ed of rubbish each day, thus giving Alliance some good advertising on account of her clean streets and san itary conditions. Extended the cluster lights from Fourth to Fifth streets on Box Butte avenue and also on East Third street. Out of the sixteen advertising and charity schemes applying at our of fice for endorsement, only three met with our approval. Secured new waste cans, thus do ing away with the bill board signs that used to adorn our main corners. Through the help of our members nd cltixens. autos were furnished for five conventions, thus showing our visitors that Alliance did not lack in hospitality. Raised to date 16,600 for our Commercial olub community building. Induced the city to employ an ex perienced landscape architect to raw plans for the City Park. Entertained fifteen conventions, the largest number ever coming to Alliance In one year. Gave the first free labor day cele bration at the fair grounds, over 3,- 00 people being in attendance. Distributed 6,000 pamphlets at the State Fair. Co-operated with our merchants in their dollar day program. Gave 3150 towards paying the ex penses er a county exhibit at the State Fair. Sent a booster delegation to Chad- ron and Crawford during their Fairs. Entertained the Crawford Boost ers when they vtalted our city. Alliance held the first co-operative style show ever given In Nebraska. Helped the farmers with their In stitute, it being the first one held in three years. Held seven smokers at the city all, thus giving the membership an opportunity to see what the club was doing and to make suggestions. Secured a mail box near the post ffice to receive the night mail. Held the first Postal Card day ev er held by any city in western Nebraska. Supported the band and they gave more free concerts the past season than ever before. Held the first Boys' Banquet ever given by a Commercial club in the west. Held thirty-nine meetings in the county in the interest of the farm demonstrator. Helped organize the first farmers' club in the county. Secured Prof. . E. Condra of the State University to take moving pic tures of Alllan'ce and the surround ing country. These will be shown at he Panama-Pacific exposition, giv ing Alliance the best kind of adver tising. This is the second Bet of moving pictures taken during the past year. Organized a J.unior Commercial Club, It being the first one organiz ed in the West. Reorganized the band, and they are now practicing for their summer concerts, the club furnishing the mu sic. Gave the school children $15 in cash prizes for essays on our com munity building. Secured a government engineer to talk to our farmers on pump irriga tion. Work has been started on the city park, and a park board has been ap pointed by the council to go ahead with this work. The $1,000 has al so been returned to this fund. Secured lights along the skating pond at the city park. Held a mass meeting at the opera house in the Interests of the com munity building. Proposed a bill to the state legis lature to offer special inducements to industries to locate in Nebraska, Successfully carried out the cam paign for a farm demonstrator for our county and our club was the first one In the west to do this work. We are in favor of gas for Alliance and a co mmittee has been appoint ed to look into this matter. The directors held 35 regular meetings and six special meetings during the year. Sent the largest delegation to Hy- annls ever attending their Home Day. Had two free illustrated lectures on better farming. Secured 284,000 lines of free ad vertiBing in the local papers and 13, 538 lines in the magazines and pa pers outside of our city. This gives Alliance the best kind of advertising and it is something that cannot be bought with money. Outline for Coming Year The work outlined for the coming year in the report is as follows: Paving. More band concerts. Noon day luncheons. Help Farm Demonstrator. Farmers' banquet. Improve the park. Post office to be open later in the evenings. Erect the community building. One cent postage. A spring and fall co-operative style show. Labor Day celebration. Do away with the bill boards in the business section. A county fair. Take the agricultural claaa of the high school on an auto trip to some of the farms in our county. Have the government make a soil and water survey of our county. Extend the cluster lights. Organize all the Commercial clubs in western Nebraska into one big or ganisation to boost western Nebraska. Community calendars. Organize a boys' and girls' olub in our county. Have a week a meeting In the in terest of better potatoes. Another silo trip. A dairy meeting.
