Lee has a wide ac quaintance in Box Butte ounty and has made a good record at the uni verslty. Sunday afternoon will be devoted to speeches, music and drills, as well as decorating the graves. The program will be given at the fair grounds at 2:30 o'clock. H. Westover presiding. Two cases were dispos ed of in short order, the time re quired being only a few hours. The divorce case of Alice M. Young vs. Edward E. Young, on the ground of extreme cruelty. Two wit nesses only were examined In the case, the complainant and Dr. H. II. Bellwood. The defendant did not ap pear In court and there Were no wit nesses In his behalf. PlalntMf was granted divorce and her maiden name, Alice M. Day, restored. Solly Woods, the negro wh6 'shot the two sons of Soney Smith last winter, plead guilty to the charge of shooting with Intent to do great bod' ily inlurr and was sentenced to ft year in the penitentiary. On the 27th sev en more members and $532. Up to 11 o'clock this morning four more had been secured and $77. This gives a total of 98 members and 12,- 725 raised under the budget system pledged its support to the metropo lis. ' f Omaha will be represented by ten delegates and the manager of the Bureau of Publicity. The T. P. A la one of the largest associations In the country. Its attendance averag Ing about 1,500. No better body of men could be brought to Nebraska to learn of the resources of the state and metropolis. The 1914 meeting will be held in Houston, Tex., June 8 to 11. County CommUloner Donate Sunt of f300 Toward Installing au Experimental Well In order to give a boost towards pump Irrigation In Box Butte coun ty the county commiss'oners have donated the sum of $300 towards In stalling an outfit near Alliance. R. M. Hampton and C. A. Dow, the committee appointed by the commer cial club to wait on the commission ers, secured this donation. It is be lieved that the commercial club will donate the balance of $300 neces sary to put in the outfit. Initiated large Clan Sunday was a gala day for the Knights of Columbus. Twenty three new members were initiated. Sunday evening a big banquet was held at Gadsby hall, being furnished by the Daughters of Isabella. The menu was delicious. The state association has unanimously Death of Baby Boy Harry Lee Smith, the infant son of C. E. Smiley, d'ed Sunday morn ing from an attack of pneumonia, aged four months and sixteen days The funeral was held Monday morn ing at 10 o'clock, the service being conducted by Rev. F. A. Woten. Six Tear Old Son of John Hopkins SerlouMy Injured by Fallen Electric Wire The six year old son of John Hop kins, living in the south part of Alli ance, was severely, perhaps fatally, Injured at 8 o'clock Sunday morn ing, when he grasped an electric ca ble carrying 2300 volts. The high wind of the evening before had torn the cable from Its fastenings and it hung near the ground. The little fellow, with some companions, were playing near the cable. He wan told by an older girl that he would be killed If he touched the wire. One hand and one foot were sev erely burned by the current which passed through the boy's body. The cable ls one which leads to the Reck brick yards south of Alliance, furn ishlng power to operate machinery there. The voltage is the same that recently killed a lineman in the busi ness section of town. New Track Arrives James Keeler and John Snyder ar rived Wednesday evening at 5:30 o'clock with a new Willys utility truck, from Denver. The trip was made in seventeen and one-half hours, beating the record of many touring cars for. the trip. Mr. Sny der purchased the truck through the Keeler-Coursey Company for use in his transfer business in Alliance. McCormick Get Many FUh F. D. McCormick, well known in Alliance political circles, Journeyed, In" company with Col. H. A. Jones, to Crawford Sunday morning where they were Joined by Clyde Beckwlth and several other Crawford fisher men, all then going to their camp at Glen, in Pine Ridge, where they fished the whole day. It U said that Clyde Beckwlth did himself honorably as cook and that everyone had his fill of the finny tribe, in addition to bringing home a large number which were eagerly devoured by Allianceites who enjoy the fruits of a hard day's labor, such as that done by the aforesaid gen tlemen. Alliance Chautauqua Will Continue , Five Days This Year's Pro- grant to Be Very Strong I Our Chautauqua will start on the 23rd of June and continue through five days. The Redpath-Horner peo- pie have written to a number of our rltlEens at various times and the re- port from the Chautauqua commit- tee ls to the effect that this year's program will be very strong. In fact, the Redpath-Horner people claim It la the best they have sent odt In their eight or nine years of I Chautauqua program building. The committee will begin their ad vertising campaign about a month before the opening, and the ticket campaign will be on In earnest two weeks before the big tent goes up. It looks everywhere as if this is going to be a good Chautauqua year, The Redpath-Horner people say that In the territory generally, conditions never looked better. From points all through the states between the Missouri river and the Rocky moun- tains letters have been received In the Chautauqua office in Kansas City expressing unusual enthusiasm and indicating strong Chautauqua inter- est. Contests will be held In many different west ern sport, at which large cash pritea wll lbe offered, open to the world. There will be bucking horse contest for men and for ladles.
